any idea how the heck Porsche does it without exotic technology when everybody else cannot?

Re: E92 M3 Engine

they have exotic technology also... you can't get the power gains without them... think porsche has the variable intake length/geometery mechanism???

Re: E92 M3 Engine

The varioram, Variocam Plus tech all does not help out with the compression ratio. They have to do with optimization of the intake air only, like setting up resonance to enhance fuel mix etc. What i was wanting to know was that how come Porsche can do the 12:1 without publicizing some super tech to do it on normal fuel on a road car ...

Re: E92 M3 Engine

CaySman, Thanks for your thought on this and Phil u are more than welcome to comment too. Btw the RS4 engine compression ratio is 12:1 but of course they managed to achieve that by DI technology. Btw I am very impressed by how smooth the Audi V8 engine is when you pull it to the redline of 8250rpm...........I am surprised as Audi are not well known for making good NA engine in the first place. In addition, the it is very light weight too. If I rem correctly it shld be about 20-25kg heavier than the new BMW V8. Anyway, cant wait to see and try the new m3 engine. It will be a gem of engine.........

Re: E92 M3 Engine

I believe that the technology to do it is already out there... efficiency of engine design is also very impt. Besides, look at Ferrari and Lambo... they are also about the same in terms of compression as well and i don't think that they use any special tech as well.

Only thing I can think of for why most car builders don't do it is because of cost and fuel economy... so its not a matter of not being able to do it, it more like whether they want to do it or not.

Re: E92 M3 Engine

Desmond,

U are right. I still have not taxi ur SRT 8 yet hor! Dont forget!

Re: E92 M3 Engine

you dun go meetup and don't call me come out, how you see me?

Besides I only drive a realatively low compression V8... not cutting edge lah (only 10.3 compression)... maluh...

Re: E92 M3 Engine

A much larger intake butterfly and the increase comp from the previous 11.7 to 12.1 was the key.

Re: E92 M3 Engine

I know most niteclub girl can butterfly but which niteclub now got larger intake of butterflies.. i want to go see leh... wahahaha!

thot that they had to redesign the pistons and conrods as well?

Audi engineers left n joined BMW M, and vice versa?:juggle:

Wah lao, now S5 got V8 twin turbo. Another gud example of car industry u copy my tech I do likewise. I still maintain that the day when BMW M start using turbos will happen before I retire to my coffin.
