300kg = 4 fat men. Wow. Now that it's put into perspective ...

Re: E92 M3 Engine

at 1575, the E46M3 is considered heavy already..
At first when I read the specs , it says the new engine is 15kg lighter than E46's S54 and the new suspension set up uses alot of aluminum component, in fact almost full alu..Then it's got CF roof....
But in the end 90kg heavier than the predecessor..

I know the Pwr to Weight Ratio has improved but I'd rather have a lower PW Ratio based on a much lighter car to start with.

Re: E92 M3 Engine

To state the obvious: Lightness is important, in the sense that we don't always go in a straight line, which is the only bragging right for super powered cars which are heavy.

Turning, stopping, wear and tear all is better once weight is less.

BMW said they'd go on a project to lighten their case last year. Guess ..... that's ... a.. really ... loooooooong term project ...

The E46 M3 CSL was a work of art. They managed to get the right balance and it is one of the most respected cars that can rival supercars on track. And its not even a supercar to begin with. The new M3 will be fast but i think the M3 CSL will be far more superior than even the E46 M3 CSL. Now thats gonna be quite some wait.

Re: E92 M3 Engine

The CSLization of the new M3, with the existing one already having a CF roof, is gonna take a ton of work. What major things can they save on man? Plastic body all round?

Re: E92 M3 Engine

Yeah, gonna be challenging...anway, maybe there wont be E92 M3 CSL.

Up until now, I still think E46 M3 CSL is the best BMW car ever made...
Lucky those who bought them :)

Re: E92 M3 Engine

Just reading the latest CAR mag now on the new E92 M3... another trivia... E92 M3 anti-roll bars are HOLLOW, all in the chase for lightening the car...

No no ... I disagree .. I think the CS people even more lucky. Almost the same car (just induction system different) for WAY cheaper.

Re: E92 M3 Engine

Another trivia... sorry... reading CAR mag now...

Nearly all components on new front axle are aluminium, including struts, central subframe and thrust plate.

Too bad front and rear axle are totally different from our E92s... except for ONE track control arm...

Re: E92 M3 Engine

azrielsc, the aluminium suspension recently everybody already jumped on the bandwagon. Like Lexus GS, IS and LS all have alum susp now, Porsches since 993 and box 986 model already aluminium, Audi not only suspension is alum, Merc new S onwards aluminium I think, and BMW has been on alum for ... ages already even for non-M cars.

Am I missing something? Like the other car companies are cheating a bit on the aluminium bit?

Oh really? Thought it was something new for the E92 M3. After u posted, i went ahead to read up and yup, its the same for the marques that u mentioned! Maybe CAR was highlighting that even though the new M and E92 have aluminium suspension setups, they are totally different except for that 1 piece!

Thanks for the info!

Yeah the way CAR say, like big deal ... so I thought the other car companies all cheating and the BMW one is real.

Re: E92 M3 Engine

jack as i said to u...i think i made a good decision. for me..dry sump was key...next i looked at the OMV...i hv no doubts the new M3 gonna be one hell of a car...definitely gonna smoke me in sepang. BUT i sure as hell know value for money wise (omv 95k???), looking at brake kit, rawness....rarity factor, i made the right choice.

in my opinion...bmw wanted to make a fast car with comfort thrown in. to get all that..u hv to pile on the weight. no 2 ways about it. in fact i m prepared to say this. we go for a 8 lap race....i wanna know how those single pot calipers hold up in the new m3...

i pass on it too...

Re: E92 M3 Engine

I read elsewhere that BMW put those cheapo single caliper pistons on the brakes because of cost reasons. WTF:screwedu:

yeah man, saw a M3 E46 CSL that day. Boy that car looks 100times nicer in person. The spoiler and CF roof, plus those 19" CSL rims really steam man...looks exactly like the one Jeremy Clarkson drove in the Man of Isle. Almost felt like smashing the owner up, take his keys and drive off the CSL:lol2:
