Re: E90 engine oil leak experience

TMD, guess it my turn to kana the legendary engine oil leak.
current mileage at 135K Km
serviced and driven for 4300km. ytd found that EO is 3/4 full from "the stick"
oil stain found on the engine area nearest to the EO cap.
Dont have passport so I guess woodlands is the furthest I can go to find a doc.

Woodland is good enough, there is an outstanding doc there. Hope you rectify the problem without further issues!

Re: E90 engine oil leak experience

Have checked out and repaired the oil leak issue... similar to what viperjet had encounter in 2012
refer: http://www.bmw-sg.com/forums/bmw-3-series-owners/54529-e90-engine-oil-leak-experience-14.html

what happened to mine was
1) the “flange" was over tighten previously by some WS thus causing the screw threaded plug that is attached to the valve cover to became loose and leak.
2) Vacuum Pump Leak.

Solution:
1) change valve cover (@$520).
2) Replace 2 O ring for vacuum pump
3) replace spark plug other O rings
4) cant remember whats number 4....

Total Cost: @$700 before GST.
Downtime: @ 3hrs

I had a similar problem on my 2006 e90 - oil leak in engine bay. Mileage approx 100k. Sent to PML, and they quoted about $2k. Got a quote from one of the sponsor workshop here and was quoted $1k+ to replace "all related seals" to stop leak problem.

Not convinced, I brought car to my regular workshop in JB who specialises in BMW's. After diagnosis, mech replaced 2 o-rings at oil filter housing, and 4 more o-rings on the 2 VANOS solenoids. Viola! Oil leak no more and I'm poorer by less than RM270 - which includes my regular servicing. I brought my own oil, oil filter and air filter though....

And I must say that these guys are super pro! They even did a complete engine wash for me - meticulously cleaning EVERY item that has oil stain. Now my engine bay looks almost like new again! Hahaha!

If anyone here are feeling adventurous enough to head north to service your car, PM me for contact. Just to clarify, I'm NOT related to workshop in anyway. Just a happy customer after saving 90% of what the workshops here tried to charge me...

Re: E90 engine oil leak experience

Bro,

Was the problem caused by WS or rectified by WS?

Thank a lot.

Re: E90 engine oil leak experience

The root cause is that the screw was over tighten thus causing the threaded insert to be loosen. So its definetly by ws. Dont know which one as the car was only recently purchased.

Re: E90 engine oil leak experience

Hi, can someone pls PM me the contact tel and address of this JB workshop pls. Am also having oil level low issues on my e90. Every few weeks, the car signals engine oil level is low. Dunno where the oil went to. No oil leaks seen on the ground. Evaporated? Read that many of you here have similar issues. Is this a sign of bigger problems coming?

Re: E90 engine oil leak experience

Hello Greentea....check your PM.

Cheers!
