Creaking SOunds in E90

Dear bros,

When going over humps, etc whenever car body is subjected to some level of flex, the cabin would creak here and there, my car is only slightly more than a month old only, I read from previous postings that some of the fellow bros went to PML to complain and they replaced all interior door seals FOC as its a factory defect. My car is Sep 2007 production so I do not know whether this particular batch has got problems as well....hmmmm Thanks so much for your advises.

Re: Creaking SOunds in E90

I'm sure PML would use oodles of lube and lots of anti-friction tape 1st before replacing all the door seals.... It's your car's way of telling you, she needs strut bars, braces and ARBs!!

I don't think that kind of body flex over road humps should give rise to creaks here and there. At any speed.

My current E83 X3 does not exhibit any creak over humps, after 1yr 3 mths ownership.
Neither did my previous Lexus, nor my Merc.

All my above cars just thrundel through humps with silent solidity.

I think yours is a QC-related problem re the doors' internal side panels and how they are attached. You may be surprised that not all the retaining pins are secured properly.

I guess thats one of the problems having my car being assembled in south africa.....sigh....gonna go PML and make some noise liao during my first servicing.....:furious:

Re: Creaking SOunds in E90

Bro, my car is one of the earlier batches with noise here and there. PML replaced the whole door seal and sprayed silicone on it.

Replacing the door seal helped but only lasted for 1 month and the irritating noise was back. PML sprayed silicone on it again. No more noise.

So the real noise eliminator is THE SILICONE SPRAY. I apply it every 2 to 3 weeks... go get a can of silicone and try it. BVO sells a quit good spray called OWS BODY FLEX SPRAY or something. I use the cheap cheap type from hardware store, pretty good :)

Re: Creaking SOunds in E90

I'm pretty anal about noise, unfortunately I got lotta noise problem with my car. First it was the door seal creaking sound. Then the fuel tank created some 'tuck tuck' sound after filling up full tank. and later the steering column gave some tuck tuck sound...the suspension also gave squeaking noise when going over hump on wet day.

Fortunately PML rectified all these irritating noise.

Hi jylam
The steering column give sound when you wanna move from stationary i.e when you are starting your car? How did they fix both the steering and the suspension noise? My car has similar symptoms as well :(

Re: Creaking SOunds in E90

bro delrosa81, my car is the same batch as yours and I'm experiencing the same prob although the creaking appears more apparent in the morning when I first started driving. It goes away gradually through the day :screwedu:

Howdy

Not sure if my car is the same batch (got it in late Dec 2007), but lately I have noticed a "tut-tut" sound from the bottom of the car after I switched off the engine (having driven for some time). I asked my agent but she seems blur le..

Any idea what this sound is and should I be concerned?

Thanks in advance..

hi wayne
It it was sparkling (popping) sound coming from the rear, i was informed it was the sound of catalyc converter contracting....

There is another sparkling (as if you deep fried fish in the wok kind of sound) when the engine is idling after a long drive. I found similar occurence on the other BMW cars also...:woowooo:

Re: Creaking SOunds in E90

Tks Mega

The sound doesn't seems to be sparkling or popping type but more of the tut-tut-tut type, occuring every second or so. Din notice it when the engine is cold though. Could be something cooling off or the catalytic converter u mention. But the car still drives ok though.

Looks like I will have to stick with it till the 1st service which is a long way more to go (12k or mayb Sep this year).

Tks for ur response anyway..

Apparently there was some electronic in the streering column that had come lose, creating noise. Like some 'tak tak tak' sound. On top of that, there was some rubber rubbing noise. The guys in PML took the steering apart and I dont know how they did it, they changed the rubber parts and re assemble the column. The noise was gone. But they RESET the ECU too.... that caused my ECU refresh to be ERASED.

As for the suspension, it's a long story...anyway, i changed the spring and shock to Eibach and KONI, no more noise.

Now my car is qte noise free (fingers crossed) qte happy with it.

The thing they did with the ECU, is it a bad thingy ?
I presume they were bitching that the suspension didnt need to be replaced and thats that and you decided to replace them yourself....

Re: Creaking SOunds in E90

Hi Delrosa81,

Have you managed to solve the queky noises in the cabin? May i enquire what the SA said on the seals? I notice that problem in my cabin 2 days ago.

Appreciate your views.

Re: Creaking SOunds in E90

I lived with those creaking sounds on my previous E90. Strangely, its the only BMW I've owned to have creaking sounds.

No such sounds on my X5 and 7.

I guess most sounds you hear come from the "b" pillar and under the passenger's seat?
IF thats the case, PML can't help u. They didn't solve it for the 3.5 years I had the E90.

Perhaps its because my old E90 was made in Germany instead of South Africa... Quality issues?

Re: Creaking SOunds in E90

Hi All...just curious to know how do you check what "batch" is the car brought into Sin?

Re: Creaking SOunds in E90
