Change to another set of coilovers or go back to stock?

Re: Change to another set of coilovers or go back to stock?

I am R Logic by BC and after a month or so, it's soften and guess this is the time when it seats in well. For economical and comfort i went for this as I had tried a few but not to my likings.

Well i guess it's pretty subjective when it comes to comfort for coilovers. Some with the same brand will say good while some will say no good. If you want, you can test my ride and see if it fits. :)

Re: Change to another set of coilovers or go back to stock?

Hi bro, your 4 fingers front gap and 2 fingers rear gap is normal after changing new shocks / springs.

Mine was the same after I changed to a new set of stock shocks and springs. After one year it still didn't settle and gap remained the same.

Recently I got a used set of msports suspension installed and it's now 1.5 fingers front and 1 finger rear.

You can get a spring perch to reduce the front gap if you want to stay stock. Hope this helps.

Just to update my posts last year.

My coilovers finally called it a day. The workshop helped me source for a set of used springs (from a 335 I'm given to understand) and I got them installed a couple of days ago, along with new Sachs shocks.

While I expected to bid goodbye to the lowered looks, I was quite taken aback by how much the front end, in particular, was raised. The gap between the tyre and the wheel arch is now huge and I'm wondering if there's something wrong.

I've been trying to insert a picture of how it looks but have been experiencing problems with the "Insert Image" function in the reply tools. In the absence of pictures, I'll just say that the the gap for the front wheels is about 4 fingers while that for the rear wheels is about 2 fingers. Is this normal?

The workshop claims that for stock suspension, the gap for the front wheels is always bigger than that for the rear wheels. A casual observation of bimmers appears to bear this out but of the E90s that I've observed, the gap at the front isn't as pronounced as mine. The change seems to have totally killed the rakish profile of the car.

Would be grateful for any comments.

Many thanks, bro.

Not exactly what I hoped to hear but the truth is the truth.

Incidentally, I brought the car round to my regular tyre shop and the guy also said the clearance was normal, although he did add that the gap would settle slightly after running the car for a few months. Guess I shouldn't hold out too much hope for this given your experience.

Thanks also for pointing out on the spring perch solution. Might be something I want to look into at a later stage.

Re: Change to another set of coilovers or go back to stock?

Look at the spring perch on left that replaces the stock perch.

It's thicker hence I am guessing it compresses the spring more, hence reduces the gap height?

Doubt the gap will settle given mine didn't even after one year.

New bmw springs & shocks are way too strong.

Coilover, msports or fix front spring perch are the viable options to lower the gaps.

The spring perch is longer/taller. IE, the top spring perch have to travel more in order to compress the spring within the strut assembly to the same amount as compared to the original spring perch, hence lowering the ride height. That is the upper spring perch you are looking at btw.

PS: apologies. edited after realising that is the top spring perch.

It's not that. It's just that the gap looked larger than expected and I need a sanity check.

Here's what I mean:-

Does this look normal?

It does not look normal to me actually. Dont own an E90, but would be pretty sure 335 front springs are stiffer compared to 328 and below. What is your model? Using 335 springs on lower model E90 will definitely raise the car at the front as 355 has the heavier powertrain at the front. Generally, a stock ride height should have your wheel concentric to the wheel arch to maintain the styling. Your current height looks very high with a hideous wheel gap.....

TS car is 325 leh which is 2.5 inline 6.

Anyway it does look a little high too. Shd be 3 finger gap instead of 4?

It's a 325.

Yes, I thought the wheel would be concentric to the wheel arch so my first impression was it looked out of whack. I've observed other E90s (stock ones) and they don't appear so bad.

So I was ill advised by the workshop to use the 335 springs?

Not sure what the gap for stock E90s is as I didn't go around sticking my fingers in other peoples' cars but my gap sure looks bigger.

May zhelinm is right in suggesting that 335 front springs are stiffer on account of the heavier powertrain and may be unsuitable for smaller engined cars. If that's the case, my workshop should have advised me when discussing my options.

Re: Change to another set of coilovers or go back to stock?

Maybe you can try to get and reinstall back your old 325i springs.

Bmw springs are very strong and you can re-use it with old springs and new shocks.

The gap is close if not similar to mine after changing both springs and shocks combo, in hind side, should have kept old springs so gap may be as before.

I wish I could but I bought the car second hand and it came with coilovers, without the stock springs.

The ride is comfy coming back to stock springs but I'm having some grief over the seemingly huge gap.
