Great. I have just put in an order for 4 pieces of Sport Maxx TT tyres from tyrepac.com, fitting tomorrow morning. Will share my impressions of these tyres after a few weeks.
I replaced all four of my Bridgestone RE 050A runflats with the Dunlop Sport Maxx TT tyres three weeks ago and would like to share my impressions of the tyres so far:
tyrepac.com: Bought the TT's on-line from tyrepac.com for S$188 per piece (inclusive of GST, fitting and balancing). Quite hassle free - paid by credit card and selected a service station near my house for installation. All four of my tyres had the same week and year of manufacture, so did not have the situation experienced by friend of poolfan. Price was OK, Hurry quoted me $200 for the same tyre, the lowest quote I could get from calling around was $185. Service was good, so all-in no complaints.
Steering: As expected, steering is much lighter with the TT's than with the RE 050A runflats, which is a real boon as the E90 steering is quite heavy, especially when parking.
Grip: I do not drive very fast so have not tested the limits of these tyres. But dry grip does not seem to be a problem in the few times I have chucked it fast around corners. Have not had much opportunity to test the wet grip as it has not rained much over the past few weeks but in all the reviews of this tyre I have read so far, it is always near the top in terms of wet grip rating.
Noise: The TT is a reasonably quiet tyre. There is some degree of road noise in the form of a low level rumble (or "growl" as the tirerack review puts it) at low speeds but this fades into the backgound as speed increases and, at cruising speeds, the TT is actually quite a quiet tyre.
Ride comfort: I had expected the TT's to be much softer riding than my RE 050A runflats but this was not the case. Yes, they are definitely softer but not by a whole lot.
Value for money: I think the Sport Maxx TT's are great value for money. In the reviews I have read so far, the Sport Maxx TT usually ranks at the top with the Conti CSC3 and often above the PS3 and F1 Asymmetric. Yet, for my tyre size of 225/45/17, it is priced at $188 per piece compared with $236 for F1 Asymmetric, $242 for CSC3 and $265 for PS3 (prices from tyrepac.com). The only problem is that the TT's do not seem to be available in many tyre sizes, so may be a moot point for many.
Anyway, my two cents worth on this tyre.
