One more, POSB is privatised with merger with DBS, so even your POSB is subject to corporate tax too.. hence the bank has to charge $2 maintenance fee to maintain profit.

For example, if you pay 100 cents taking bus, after expenses, SBS Transit, earn 30 cents, 20% corporate tax, is 6 cents to government, still got 7% GST leh. BTW, diesel price which SBS transit bought also contain fuel tax. So bus fare must increase to have higher SBS profit and higher tax income for gov.. Make sense now??

Just finished talking to one of my german friend who is reading your comment. He says and I quote him even in Germany most public transport service is owned by town council who is also profit making co and need to pay tax to the central gov. All other public utilities like gas and electricity work the same way. All inter-state buses are privately owned and he dont understand why we are complaining. Maybe the lawn is always greener at the neighbour side..

Not time for more research......need to bring him for beer session...

You should ask him if he finds Singapore cheaper to live than Germany and then ask if he wants to be citizen here.
Tell him how much our beer cost... We have alcohol tax and cigarette tax too..

He is curious why there are so many expensive german cars in Spore when I told him we have COE, people complaining high cost of living and his conculsion is we are all earning big bucks here. Maybe our gov let in too many rich FT.

On serious note..there are more foreigners (chow Ang Moh) taking up citizenship in SPore...
