My 2cents:
The only 2 plus points about the SLK is it's tin roof, and it's a slighty better car for posing in. Everything else, the Z4 wins hands down, it's also much cheaper. In fact for the price of the SLK350, you might as well get a Porsche Boxster S, probably the sweetest handling roadster around, plus you get the relative exclusivity of the Porsche badge.
If you can wait, the E90 cabs coming in about a year, I believe will have a tin folding roof......

if you can wait........... hold on for the new valvetronic 3 litre engine for the bimmer and possibly a little facelift!
SLK is pretty slick looking and a 350 is pretty fast n better yet the SLK55, always kinda drool when looking at its back on the road, there is a legacy notion from previous generation of SLK that it is a "goddess" car (ok dun flame me.. it is all there written in the magazine and i assume you are m) MB try to shake off. I don't mind owning one myself if i can stretch my self indulgance.

I like the hard top (its a big plus for me), but if the Z4 is better in all other aspects then that makes the choice easier. I thought about the boxster S but I was under the impression that it's like $300,000 whereas the other two are under$250k.
I am looking forward to seeing how the E90 cab looks like.

I agree with you about the image of SLK. That is the one thing that I am getting a nagging feeling on and was wondering if others feel teh same way. You have just confirmed it.
SLK55? That would cost too much I reckon.
Any idea when the new facelift model may be expected? I am no particular hurry but I am not particularly patient either

The hard top is a big plus. I also kinda like the look of this new SLK. I think MB tends to be more gadgety than BM. However, I just get that nagging feeling I mentioned earlier. Having said that, I am not entirely certain that Z4 does not have that image either (perhaps less so).

Z4 looks unique in its design.....SLK is just like a 2+2 coupe chopped by half into 2 seat.
If you're looking at the upper range version ie 3.0L Z4 and SLK 350 then both are pretty appealing as a package, the latter being more powerful ride too.
But if you are comparing the 2.5 vs SLK 200.....Trust me, the Z rocks way better!

Saw a program on 5th gear last night. Z4 was ranked above Boxster S on the track. Think it completed faster by a 6th of a second. Tight huh?
But den it's also $100k cheaper than a Boxster S right? Mod fund. hahahah..
Din watch enough to tell if it was a manual Z4 or steptronic.
