WTB small car for daily runaround

I need some advise, inputs and suggestions on what kind of small car is good to buy used. My requirements are quite simple, hassle-free, easy to drive, frugal, 4 door, reliable. Preferably something

VW Polo... gf has one but was the prev. gen, its a pretty good runabout, frugal, solid-feel, well put together, drives better then similar-ly priced asian rivals (vios, altis, etc) (at least to me) just needs moar powar

actually, if you want a bit of fun and still within the considerations, try adding in a Honda FIT or City. the 1.5L i-VTEC engine is really quite fun and as the car is light, its really frugal. Both got auto and manual tranny. Lots of these on 2nd hand market. Personally i would stay away from the Lancer and Sunny.

My 1.5 cents.

+1. I got a Jazz at home and it perfectly fits the bill here.

Re: WTB small car for daily runaround

toyota corolla lo....plain but good...good FC too.
but if u want looks, can consider the Kia Cerato Forte or new Hyundai sedans.
design quite swee but dunno quality hoh boh though.

Re: WTB small car for daily runaround

why Lancer and Sunny no good? Can elaborate a bit more? Coz when I go to sgcarmart and narrow search to "Auto trans", "$30-35k", and "2005-2007", the whole thing's full of Lancers and Sunnies! I was leaning more towards these bread and butter ones.

btw, i dont need fun or horsepower, just a workhorse..

Mock, I checked, Polos are above 40k, a bit over what I'm willing to spend.

Re: WTB small car for daily runaround

my cousin's previous Cerato engine sounds like shit after 3 yrs but somehow their new design seems to tempting, especially the Koup...

my experience wif korean cars was that they are guzzlers.. or at least, drink more then the jdm's

Re: WTB small car for daily runaround

my personall experience with Nissans are that the FC aint that good.
handling's ok....got my licence with a Nissan sunny.

honda seems to be a good balance between power n FC

for under 40k, i think u can get most prob a 2006/07 jap car.
u will need to be prepared for wear n tear expenses cos most prob pops up after the 3rd year.

oh yeah how about COE E36s? Do they run against the grain of simple, hassle free cars? Coz their purchase price now is quite in my budget.

The new Ceratos are too expensive now leh....

Re: WTB small car for daily runaround

I just checked out the Fit and Jazz... they seem to cost more for less car. Compared to say prev gen corolla or lancer or sunny.
Are they really worth the slight premium?

Re: WTB small car for daily runaround

if u need more sitting space+boot space....corolla still a better choice.
jazz and fits are slight more on the premium side for smaller sized cars but the performance is there.

Re: WTB small car for daily runaround

I just checked out the non-Forte Ceratos, the previous generation ones. They are quite reasonably priced, and so perhaps I'm leaning more towards that. Anyone with any experience with the car? I dont mind the engine sounding like shit as long as it doesnt break down and it is able to move the car can already.

Re: WTB small car for daily runaround

Racebred, u could also try out Hyundai Accent 1.5L, which is below $30k or Hyundai Verna 1.6L, which is about $35k. I drove a couple of days on Hyundai Accent & no major complaints except for feather like steering. FC is as good as Jap.

Re: WTB small car for daily runaround

I got a Subaru Stationwagon 1.4
I dump 92 Octane into it.
I haven't washed it since I bought it almost 2 years ago.
Runs without problem (touch wood).
Sent for one service so far.
Has all the space I need.
Relatively comfortable.
Park anywhere, no one (including myself) cares.
Should be in the region of under 40K now for a 2006/7 model.

have fun searching...
