Woman trapped for an hour in BMW crash
By Jennifer Dhanaraj
SINGAPORE - The black BMW was a mangled mess.
Rescuers from The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) had to extricate the bloodied driver, a woman in her 20s, from the front seat in a car accident.
Her BMW had crashed into a tree at Woodlands Avenue 12 last Saturday morning, trapping her from her waist down for at least an hour.
The woman's relatives arrived shortly after.
As they watched the rescue efforts, concern was etched on their faces.
At several junctures, the relatives covered their eyes and faces in anguish.
Rescuers had to use hydraulic equipment to lift the dashboard, which had caved in from the impact.
They also had to separate the car seat from the severely mangled car door before extracting the driver.
The SCDF said it received a call around 9am and deployed a Red Rhino, a fire engine, firebikes and supporting vehicles to the accident scene.
The woman, who suffered head injuries and also fractured her left leg and right hip, was taken to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital.
The police said investigations are continuing.
