Whether to lower my car?

Hi guys,

Like to seek opinions on whether or not to lower my car with Eibach Springs. The concern I have is that my car, an E46 318i is coming to 5 years old, last check the original shocks is still good, but I guess the big question is how much longer it can hold up. Mileage is at 84000km.

Pls share with me your views..

Would also like to find out if the shocks give way, what damage would it cause?

Thanks in advance...............:)

looks goooood!!

A lowered BM is hard to beat in term of looks and handling. But bear in mind your old shocks may not handle the extra damping needed for the Eibach springs. Advisable to change shocks too...Bilstein has great options. You will love the handling!

Do a thorough wheel alignment after lowering as the camber and toe will be affected. Try not to go too low as you will experience dreadful bump steer....dont ask me what is the limit. Have fun!

Didn't want to change out the shocks as I only plan to be driving the car for another 6 months or so.. ... Any idea if shocks give way, what are the consequences?

Thanks... :)

If the shock gives way, you can easily get a second hand set for ard $500.

Re: Whether to lower my car?

Shocks giving way.. you will get a soggy ride and can feel your tires jumping over undulation at speed. If only one of the shock give way, than your cornering would really exciting... if left shock gone... cornering left will encounter considerable understeer. Pretty scary if you asked me. However, all should be manageable below the speed of 90 kph, but that particular tire will goes lumpy in very short time.

If shocks give way then your car will get lower and lower until the whole chasis sits on the tires eventually... :)

If you are going to drive your car for another 6 months or so.

Just leave it as it is :)

Save the money and mod your next ride :)

Don;t think the shocks will affect the ride height that much, dude. The car sits on the springs, shocks just give the damping.
