Tortoise and Pretender, thanks for your sharing your experience!
I thot it would be okay to use Magic Box to prevent error code or warning sign as compared to hard wiring.
Beemers are really sensitive. I guess I will stay away for survellieance and keep my finger cross that are no ppl to tamper my car when it is parked.

you're welcome. Juz ignore w the error massage and you'll get use to it v soon. i'm also bothered actually till nw but dun think abt it n you'll be immune and fine... :)

Re: where to install Car camera

Bought ITB-100HD with power-saver device to install at recommended workshop, installer connect the camera directly to cigarette lighter but can't because he notice that if ignition is off, current still supply to the cigarette lighter, which eventually will drain the battery. Was told that usually when ignition is off, shouldn't have any current supply to cigarette lighter. End up ask me to go another day in the morning for him to trace the correct wire which might need to take a few hours.

By the way, the installer also highlighted to me that even if i want it connect directly to the cigarette lighter, there aren't a need to use power-saver as our car got the auto-cutoff features when detect battery low to prevent from car starting, is it true?

Great info! Thank you!

Re: where to install Car camera

Yes, my GPS and/or iPhone charger will have power cut-off after I shut off the ignition so power supply is cut off once engine is turned off.

The correct wire to tap is inside the middle console, tell them don't bother looking under the driver dash or fusebox (passenger glove box). I found it the hard way after waiting for installer to trace the correct wire after 3 hours.

The right one was found to connect my GPS in the middle of the entire car dash (underneath the radio unit). Best is to find installer that is familiar with the BMW electronics.

Re: where to install Car camera

the car has two power supply lines named terminal 30 and terminal 15 by BMW.
terminal 30 is a constant on power line which will supply power all the time and can be tapped from the passenger side fuse box.
terminal 15 is a supply line which will only be on when you start the engine and is where the ciggie lighter is linked to.

if you want 24/7 carcam on, then you need to tap to the constant on power line which will eventually drain your battery.
for those who only want the cam to be on while engine is on, can tap to the ciggie lighter power cable instead.

the car goes into a deep sleep mode after 16 minutes of no activity. but if you do not have idrive and the battery is low, there will be no warning. you will just find you car unable to start suddenly if battery does not have enough juice.

what i did for my own installation was just to plug the car cam power plug into the ciggie lighter in the passenger footwell area so that the cam will turn on when engine is started.

for those having workshops doing the installation, please make sure that the workshops run the cable UNDER the A-piller airbag. the A-pillar trim needs to be removed to do it. Else the airbag may not activate properly in the event you need it.

Re: where to install Car camera

I recently changed power connection from Ciggy to fusebox and started getting the warning in the mornings. The "!" with triangle remains even after I run the car for few minutes. How to get rid of this warning mark?

I also have this every morning. I tried to set the timer to 6 hours also same thing. The car can detect even a small drainage of the battery. The only solution i know is to turn off your camera or provide another battery for the camera alone.

Re: where to install Car camera

I just left the camera at the same settings. Just "Ok" the warning and carry on with it as Parking mode would be handy - see the other thread how WRX hit and run!
