What to do with my extractors?

Dear all,

Recently realized that my exhaust is leaky. Went down to Man Exhaust and they diagnosed it as a leak in my manifold/extractor. Offered to take it out and repair = $150 or change new set = $1000+. Also noted that my bimmer has two front cats and two rear cats.... they suggested taking out the front cats......

What would you guys do if you were me? Take out the cat or not? By the way, my rides a manual.... for those who do not know me.... thanks for your input!!!

What were the symptoms like when you realised you have a leaky? Loss in power? Smelly exhaust or what? If you take out the cats for the front, what are the benefits and side effects? I will go for repairs definitely....
 
keeping in mind your future mods, i think you should just remove everything, the pre and mid cats. hiop headers are good, but expensive.

Bro, i don think the manifold on the 6cyc will crack ?? Chances are the gaskets than the manifold itself.

Anyway i know that the mechanic they we both go has got one lying around, used, so u might try there.

As for cat, removal of the cat gives a lot more torque and i managed to squeeze 20kph more on Sepang front straight with just removal of cat. However since my rear box is stock, there is a lot of baffling and i don like it. so now on street, the cat is up but i will take out when i head up north..

So in short, if u ask me, i will remove the cat, and get the manifold checked...

by the way, u changed ur number ? i tried looking for u last week...
 
Hey guys,

Took out my extractors at Man Exhaust yesterday and discovered that the joint between the manifold and the pre-cat is cracked along the edge. Not detected or imagined but actually can see from naked eye!!!
Anyway, took the whole manifold out and changed to a new one. Decided not to take out the cat as I want to retain all the low end push that i'm having now . Not having much problem with high end so .... keeping the pussy for now...heh heh!!!
