What tire pressures?

recently had my 19s removed to be resprayed gold..... upon removing the 235/35/19 Sp9000 (crap tire) we noticed there were cracks running along the side wall.

upon further inspection and enquires, the 34psi i have been pumping is too low, 35 series tires apprently need at least 38psi to prevent this side wall failour.

now is this true or the dealer is pulling my leg.

Re: What tire pressures?

I use 225/45R17 tyres and i put 33 to 34psi in them. Any higher and my car feels bouncy. It's best to check with a trusted tyre supplier or the manufacturer. Your car manual should give some guidance too, though it may not have any information for tyres that are not factory fitted. You'd know that too low or too high pressure will not be good for the tyres, nor for safety.

Cheers

Re: What tire pressures?

I think the owner's manual did state a higher tyre pressure for 18" compared to 16 or 17'.
If I'm not wrong, the rear should have higher pressure as well. I used to pump 33psi for both front and rear.
Now I do 31 for front and 34psi for rear. The car now looks sportier as the rear looks marginally higher now (could be psychological). But it did get a little more bouncy at the rear though.
Go with the owner's manual recommendation.. can't go wrong there.
But I do not think that a slightly lower tyre pressure will cause a rim to crack. The BMW and TUV approved rims are supposed to withstand certain stringent tests.

Re: What tire pressures?

I pump 35psi into my 17' Dragon....some tyre need a tad higher pressure for it to perfrom.

My Civic 15' SO3 already has 35psi already....I hate my sidewall to flex when cornering....

Re: What tire pressures?

the rims dun crack la, its the side wall of the tires that crack.

to me, my tire guy doesn't even know whats the prob, so his dishing out rubbish.

according to him, 35 series tires need at least 38psi, or the side wall will crack.

and he just happen to not know this? his been selling tires for years!

so i really dun know whats the real deal.

Hi Ghostrider,

May I ask how do you find your Dragon tyres? I was considering getting it versus the Goodyear F1 GSD3 but decided to try out the Goodyear eventually.

Re: What tire pressures?

The Dragon is suppose to be the Asia version only of the P7000.

Performance is good on the dry. Wet I would rate it above average. Not performance standard...but travelling at 100kmh in the driving rain no problem. Stopping is good....above average. Ride wise is a tad bumpy...cos you need to pump higher pressure for the tyre to perform...if you pump 32psi or 34 psi etc...you might find the steering a bit on the odd side. I am doing 35psi on these guys.

Rubbers last around 40,000km.

IMHO....for its price...cannot complain too much. I got the first set at $189 for 235/45/17 at SE Tyre. This is a great price for tyre of these performance....even lousy yoko dBs are 200+ per piece at that profile.

Mine due for a change soon...the current price after the increase is $210 per piece.

Thanks for your comments on the Dragon. You did get a very good price for them; must have been more than a year ago? When I enquired a couple of weeks ago, it was about $310 each at Autoacc Paya Lebar for a 225/45R17.

Re: What tire pressures?

Tell whoever quoted you to go fly kite....235/45/17 are going for $210 only....I am getting mine replace soon before my trip to Malaysia this month....I got the quote from SE Tyre just last Sunday.

I got the first set was at a super good price....it was so new that even mag have not even got the tyre for review yet...so it was a sing song price for 17s....heck...at that price for 17s...I am game to try man !!
