What engine is used in the older Z4?

Hi Guys,

Can anyone advise if the older Z4 engine is the same as the current e60 523? Or is it something else?

Thanks!

Re: What engine is used in the older Z4?

The older Z4 is based on the previous non-valvetronic engines...

therefore

2.5 = 192 Bhp
3.0 = 231 Bhp

the current uprated valve-tronic engines are:

523 = 2.5L detuned = 177 Bhp (engine only in 323, 523.. not in Z4 as far as i know)
525 = 2.5L = 218Bhp (this engine also in 325, 525, Z4)
530 = 3.0L = 258Bhp (this engine also in 630, 730,330, Z4)

torque figures are about the same but curve is altered slightly so response is better - from what I know..

Cheers

Yes the older Z4 2.5 and 3.0 are both double vanos. if my memory serves me right double vanos has been around since 1999.

Re: What engine is used in the older Z4?

The older engines are Double-VANOS too.
M54B25 = 192 BHP
M54B30 = 231 BHP

The newer engines are also Double-VANOS with Valvetronic.
I am quite sure the 218 BHP and 258 BHP engines are based on the M54B25 and M54B30 blocks respectively.

But I am not certain if the detuned 177 BHP engine is (still) based on the older M52B25.
Anyone knows?
