Really that bad? Certain brand does have an aroma to it...

Would it be the person before you who step in to the CLS got very strong "BO" ??

It is not that bad lah, just one man's meat is another's poison. It is like a type of leathery smell, kinda like the sheep was put into the car, rather than its hide. Probably is too atas for me.

Re: Upgrading from F10

just came back from C and C. Test drove the CLS.
First impression, very beautifully made car, solid and interior is really a class above my F10 ( No offence to fellow f10/11 driver)
Door close with a solid thud- like old Mercedes. Though both the F10 and CLS have aluminium door, The BMW doors feels a bit filmsy and light compare to the Merc.
On the go, The Merc did not fare that well compare to F10, handling is good but for a 3.5 litre car, I find it a bit harsh on accelaration.Engine noise is pretty obvious. Though it pulls well and handle with good agility. F10 ride might not be better but engines seems sweeter.

Price- quite attractive if you compare to what PI is offering, somemore with LED lights that PI doesnt come with. But not good enough to convince me for a change, for above 300k with no navi and reverse camera. Not quite good enough i reckon
C&C also doing some promo for their outgoing S class. Price is slightly cheaper than the CLS after all the discount. Went for a test drive, though a detuned version of the 350 engine ( 300l) is actually a lot more smoother delivery and quieter than the CLS. Could be the insulation but the S class ride really well and it blown my F10 away in terms of comfort and even built/ finishing.

At present, More inclined towards the S than the CLS.

Went to had a look at Audi A7 quattro. No deal.. but they have a pre-owned A8L 3.0TDI. this one is quite interesting being diesel and full of gadgets. Price is well belowed the S offering.

Think getting old.. need a cossetting ride.

Re: Upgrading from F10

Was owner of a BMW 523i F10 .. tested the different makes, eg. Audi A6 2.0T, Jaguar XF 3.0 V6, Infiniti M37 and Lexus GS variants (diff days; 6 hrs at least in total) .. finally chosen the GS 350 F Sport.

Felt the BMW was a quieter ride (after some light tune) even when stressed as compared to the new sporty GS, it was also faster than the GS250 off the line, as the in line 6 delivers power instantaneously. However, the GS is easier to handle and relaxing to drive .. esp with the new suspension setup, it's easier on my bones when going over road humps and with the F Sport "sport +" on, going around bends is a breeze. The specs from "premium" are also much better than my stock BMW. If you just need a comfortable ride and good specs, the GS250 "premium" will do just fine .. some aftermarket light tune will make it more responsive. For me, the GS250 will not be able to tempt me over from my BMW .. Now, I am a happy owner of the GS350 F Sport .. the power and engine/exhaust with "sport +" on .. is addictive !

Have been driving the car for more than 3 months now .. choice of luxurious comfort or sporty drive at the twist of a knob .. handling of the car is fantastic .. power without control is useless and Lexus has done well in this aspect with the "sport +" mode.

This is definitely a more comfortable and an easier car to drive than my 523i F10, though of course I would not be comparing apple to apple. The car has 2 extreme personalities that catered to my needs very well, eco mode for weekday driving and sport + for the weekends .. bcos I shared the car with my wife and I drive more over weekends. Problem free so far except for the occasional screeching of brakes which I do hv such sound from my 523i previously .. but since Lexus pride itself as in pursuit of perfection .. sent in and problem resolved with changing of brake disc and pads free. As for car performance .. The 316 hp esp in sport + and occasional peddle down is more than enough to meet my sporty driving, which the 523i was a little lacking. The pipe-in engine sound has also reduced with a bottle of ceratec .. in fact , I would use manual shift at times to hold the gear longer or i will rev harder in the eco mode to enjoy the Yamaha tuned engine/exhaust note .. love it better than the mark levinson sound system.

Getting slightly more than 10km/l. The fuel consumption for the GS 350 F Sport is almost comparable to my previous 523i F10, unless you pushed it real hard in the Sport+ mode. Reading shows can travel more than 600km for a full tank.

I read something abt the car having dual injection of petrol .. the direct injection at higher speed actaully gives good fuel consumption. The bottle of liquid moli ceratec may have also helped .. as I find the engine at idle is also quieter.

So far happy with my new ride : )

Re: Upgrading from F10

GS350 F Sports sounds like a good alternative but how does it perform against 535i? Just asking out of curiousity only, not making any plan to upgrade my car though.

Re: Upgrading from F10

Tried both and was driving the F10 520i for about a year. Decided to move on to the F10 Active Hybrid 5 which is essentially a 535i slapped with an electric motor. Loving every minute of driving this car so far. No regrets. A BMW is still indeed a performance car and a joy to drive.

Met a 535i owner who changed to GS 350 Luxury b4 I bought my ride, he said moving off 535i seems a tad faster, else comparable.

There are some overseas reviews though .. one of which was by motortrend:

Six-Cylinder Midsize Luxury Sedan Comparison - Audi A6, BMW 535i, Lexus GS 350, Infiniti M37 - Motor Trend

You could also read more from other owners who changed to GS 350 F Sport in the Club Lexus website :

Too bad local Lexus forum is not active.

My family owned the 1st generation GS, it's indeed a brilliant car and for the price compared to its German rivals, it was a steal as far as pricing and the standard equipment are concerned, and I'm certainly it still is if its to be compared to the same engine size with its rivals. However the only drawback i had with the car was during high speed travels to KL, when traveling in excess of 180km/h. For high speed drivers, the braking performance of the GS just doesn't quite give me the confidence as its German rivals do. That aside, I was happy with its power and handling. Not sure if Lexus has improve on this aspect with the previous and current models.

Re: Upgrading from F10

For me i think bestest best upgrade is an AMG. Anything C63, CLS63 or E63 all ok!
