Tyres rubbing on E60 pre FL

I fitted my rims at Rays yesterday with Yokohama Advan Sport tyres with setting 245/35/20 (front)and 285/30/20 (rear). The rear clears nicely but the front tends to rub against the fender.
But raymond claims he's fitted many with the same setting before and it clears both front and back nicely.
Anyone out there having the same setting but clears nicely?
I was thinking by changing to 245/30/20 for the front, but i'm not too sure whether this will work?
Got any better suggestions bout this problem i got?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Tyres rubbing on E60 pre FL

What rims are you running on? Offset?

It's not necessarily the tyres.

Re: Tyres rubbing on E60 pre FL

im on the same tire setup as u. rub the front also during hard cornering, that was then when i had stock suspension, perhaps u can get coilovers , highest setting and set to hard.

yes...both tires and rim offset is wrong.... tires shud be using 245/30 and 285/25 but thats just a small matter...i was running on 245/35/20 and 275/30/20 too... because i am scared of thin tires...

back to topic... in your case..the bigger issue is the offset... even with those tires... IF you have the right offset...it should not rub... take pics... or come down to the meetup... then we can see better

with 245/35/20 your tire side wall thickness will be approx: 85.75mm
245/30/20 your tire side wall thickness will be approx : 73.5mm

means ur car will be lowered by approx 1cm and there will be approx 1cm of more clearance from fender to tire.... if you change to 245/30 tires but then again..if your offset is too agressive... one harder bump... it will still rub

Re: Tyres rubbing on E60 pre FL

Ok, now the thing is i have changed the front to 245/30/20 and the rear is still the same.
Hopefully it won't rub against the fender anymore.
But Terry, ur saying i shld change the offset so that i would have more clearance away from the fenders right? I'm kinda a newb in this so i need more detailed explaination. Sry bout tt.
But the offset u gave is for my previous 245/35/20. So now if for the 245/30/20, what offset should i be having instead?

Will be uploading my pics ltr when i get home so u guys can help me see better.

For Kenntona : the rims im on i think its called vertini fashion or something like that. Not sure bout the offset as i really a total newb about it.

And anyway, just wanna ask u guys actually the tires that im using, the Yokohama one. Is it good or just average tyres? any comments on it from past-users?

Thanks so much for the replies!!

that is tire size... offset is how far away ur rim and the hub... and how far away it is from the fender... what you are doing now by changing tires are just small way of remedy... not the actual problem of having a wrong rim offset.

by changing ur tire from 245/35 to 245/30 means you are lessing the 'thickness' of the tire.... not exactly making your rim 'go in'

since u got it from rays i assume is yokohama avant sport 103.... so far i havent heard anything bad about that tire... its one of the best bang for the buck tire from what i heard... very cheap for 19 and 20inch comparing to other tires such as conti and michelin

Here's the pics for the rubbing on the fenders and some pics of my rims
Sorry bout the late reply.

Terry, i'm still using the front 245/35/20. Didnt change to profile 30 at last. Got any suggestions that i could do to prevent the rubbing?

And u used to use 20 inch rims last time right? What mods do u think i needa do to accomodate my rims? Now its like when i fetch 4 dudes behind, my rims will rub against the fenders when i drive on some bumpy grounds. Preferrably something that's not gonna cost much. Some small things that can make my suspension not so soft. Maybe like changing the shocks or wad.

Thanks

Re: Tyres rubbing on E60 pre FL

maybe you can ask RAYS to provide you more details about the rims e.g. width and offsets.
its should read something like below
20"x 8.5 ET12

bro...i just came back from MOS...and i saw your car.... i was already looking at your car.. (i was actually thinking...this rims will rub man) .. your offset is slightly too aggresive and you are using yokohama advant sport tires ? the side wall of that tires is thick (only took a glance...not so sure) try using smaller tires 235 and 265

i was in your shoes once with 20x9j Et 16 and 20x10j Et 11 .... what i did was camber in more (the rear ) and maybe change to harder suspension like PSS9

Bro...I wud suggest that you change ur suspension to adjustable type as i personally dun think the factory shocks cannot withstand the weight of the 20s + passangers in the car. Was wondering if you do need to roll ur guards jus to play safe...=)

Re: Tyres rubbing on E60 pre FL

LoL.. I saw ur car too man.. b4 it enter the carpark. What happen to ur rims man. Look kinda weird. U sold ur volks rims alreadi izzit.. How u find the rims on the car? Nice anotx?

Ya, I was thinking the cheapest and best solution is to change to a smaller tyres and change to a normal priced suspension which can adjust like wad Advan said.

Terry, by changing the fenders alone can prevent the front from rubbing anymore? Is it becoz the M5 fenders are more wide?

Will try get the offset from Rays tml or something. Kinda pissed with myself, should haf done more research b4 changing the rims. Now i haf a car that can't fetch much people. Realli defeats the purpose man.

Anyway wads the price of 1 set of bilstein pss9 suspension? or does anyone haf a used set can sell cheap cheap to me? wahahah..

Re: Tyres rubbing on E60 pre FL

my volk racing is sold.... hehehe... wait for my new rims to come..should be christmas... :nehnehhh:

yes the M5 fenders are approx 1inch wider... therefore can take on those rims witout any problems...

in my honest opinion... by changing suspension..yes u might prevent rubbing... but thats like denying the truth that you have a wrong offset wheels... but of course it will look good :)

Yes I totally agree with bro Terry, but i suggested a rather cheaper option 'of changing suspension' that might solve the rubbing issue...hmm if not i think u'll spend much more by changing the wheels =) heehee....

Re: Tyres rubbing on E60 pre FL

Hey guys, managed to get the offset already.

Rim Width: 8.5" Front 10.0" Rear
Offset: ET20 Front ET25 Rear

Do you guys know which shop does touch up for my kind of finishing, got a huge curb rash on the front wheel and back wheel.. sianx.

Re: Tyres rubbing on E60 pre FL

Yea, very sure.

http://www.vertiniwheels.com/images/wheels/fashion/fashion.htm??/

eBay Motors: New 20" Vertini BMW 5 6 Series M5 M6 Wheels Rims Tires (item 220163076553 end time Oct-28-07 20:40:58 PDT)

Both the websites states that. Maybe its the tyres i use are too big? Or becoz i'm using stock bodykit?

Anyway, Terry is there any place where they can touch up rims with curb rash? I went down to Rays today, they used a grinder on my rims which i find it weird. And it caused some cracks. So pissed..
