Tyres fitting to rims

need some advice from bros here. I'm taking over a set of 17" rims, 8J in front and 8.5J rear. I'm wondering if I can put 17" 225/45 tyres all round rather than use a staggered setup. Reason for this is future tyre rotation and comfort.

Or must i die die use a staggered setup due to the rim size? wat's the issue if any?

thx!

Re: Tyres fitting to rims

Since it's 0.5J diff front n back u can still run em all round but surely, the rear will look a little odd (tires may look a little strecthed=>depends on tire brands too)
No worries dude.

Re: Tyres fitting to rims

optimum fitment for wheels

8J = 235/45 17 (Height 105.75mm)
8.5J = 235/40 17 (Height 94mm)

Re: Tyres fitting to rims

I don't think it will work well when you next time rotate your 8.5J rims to the front. Ideally you should leave 8J front and 8.5J rear. How about looking for another person with same rims who wants to do the same as you, then 1 of you take 4x8J and another take 4x8.5J? That'll work better I think.

Re: Tyres fitting to rims

I think he just meant rotating tires, not rims which in turn is goin to be trouble some anyway..

Re: Tyres fitting to rims

Just a tot.. I'm using 225/45/17 and my current tyres were wider than my previous sets of same specs (ES100). The Fed SS595 is big blocks grippy wet tyres and it actually measures 230 to cover the rims' edges, hence it's sort of a inbetween.

I am pleased with its handling, grip and all.. but as usual, the ride is hard and a little noisy.... not as bad as the ES100 though.

Wa like that rotate = take out tyres and put back?! So troublesome. I still think my idea works better, i.e. swap 2 rims with somebody. Don't forget still have to worry about directional/asymmetric tyres.

Re: Tyres fitting to rims

thx for all the responses! sounds like I dun hv much of a choice, staggered seems to be the way to go. doubt i can find easily half a set of rims of same design and condition to swap.

those running staggered I assume do not rotate tyres?

As for buying tyres from shops, any idea if they charge differently if buy a set if two each of different sizes vs normal set of 4? Also do I need adjust height of car to use the rims effectively?

Re: Tyres fitting to rims

Most probably, you encounter a small different in price between the wider and not so wide tyres.. I don't think they charge differently as you are still buying 4 pieces.

Not sure of height adjustment though..

No harm trying, especially if yours is the M68 design which is quite common due to Sports Edition. You never know. If condition is not to your liking, can always spruce them up at Yew Lip.
