Tyre pressure

Hi

an elementary question to most of you, but was just wondering how much pressure do I need to use when I pump car tyres? 275?

Re: Tyre pressure

check the side of the driver door, different tyre sizes will require different pressure.

Re: Tyre pressure

I reduced my tyre pressure from 280/300 level on advise by the many helpful hia-dees on this forum. Now I am on 255 kPA all round...oh..they drive is so much smooth, good grip, better acceleration. FC did not go up. Tyres are 19".

will inadequate tyre pressure affect fuel consumption?

inadequate tyre pressure will result in
- possible higher FC
- possible faster wear of tyre
- compromise comfort for sportier drive, and vice versa
- heavier steering

could be more, but these are what i roughly know.

just imagine driving on fully-inflated tyres, against fully-deflated tyres.
of course we do not go to both extremes, but using both extremes as the 2 diverse point of a scale, varying tyre pressure will place your ride somewhere along the scale.

the info on the side of the driver's door is the so called "best recommendation" by the car/tyre manufacturer.
for a non-technical person like me, go with the advice by the manufacturer, should not go wrong bah.

I also remember reading from some car magazine (Carma, i think) that tyre pressure will be lost over time.
So it is important to check the tyre pressure regularly, about once every 2 weeks.
remember to check it in the morning before driving. this is when the air in the tyre is cold.
after you drive for sometime, the air inside becomes hot and pressure builds up, then buay zun liao.

this piece of info worth....50cents, i think. :p

Re: Tyre pressure

Thanks bros for all the tips. At least now I can pump up the tyres with confidence rather than previously just aga aga.

one last point to add...
invest in a decent tyre pressure gauge instead of depending on those pumps at the petrol kiosk.
a friend told me he tried and found that those at the petrol kiosk are not maintained or tuned.
so getting a wrong reading = wrong tyre pressure.

happy pumping...air:lol:
