Tyre advise for 520i

Hi bros,

Can this wheel size 255/40/R19 fit on the latest 520i and will it affect tight cornering and parking in HDB especially?

Also looking for 245/45/R19 has diameter 703mm versus stock 225/55/R17 RFT's diameter 680mm but difficult to find and not available at site sponsors....

Am getting the ride this week, any advise is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Allen

Re: Tyre advise for 520i

Hi bro,

For F10, the wheel arc is rather huge....and can easily take on 20"s so no worries for 19"s. In fact, would advise to go 20" if not may regret the wheels looking too small and losing the F10 nicely proportionate sporty profile from the side and also the 20"s offset (ur wheel shop should be able to advise) would be quite nice to flush and very nice from the back and front. For 20" would likely be 255/ 285 stagger.

Not trying to poison u but sharing so u dun regret..but its still ur preference in the end ya!

Rgds

Re: Tyre advise for 520i

Hi bro,

True, 20" 21"rims will make it look bigger...

But tyre diameter is the final width

For instance:
225/55/R17 diameter = 680mm
245/35/R20 diameter = 680mm
245/30/R21 diameter = 680mm
no change at all...

Then
255/40/R19 diameter = 687mm
255/35/R20 diameter = 686mm only

But interestingly...
245/45/R19 diameter = 703mm
245/40/R20 diameter = 704mm

Still have my Breyton Race GTP 19" rims, so hoping to re-use on 520i with better tyres.
Interesting 255/285 recommendation....

Thanks,
Allen

Yes the actual diameter ofthe rubber is definitive. However, the look of in terms of proportion also plays a role in the perceptive view with the naked eye when installed.

Bigger diameter rubber (on smaller rim size; ie 19") in absolute terms will likely mean there is more 'rubber' width from the rim contact point to the edge of the tyres - giving a more 'chubby tyre' look. Whereas a smaller diameter rubber on a larger rim size ie; 20" will have a more sleek profile where the rubber will look more 'thin' surrounding' the rim...so its personal preference.

Hmm... do consider the cost of replacing the rubber hor.

When four replacement tyres cost $4k, it's no laughing matter.

For f10, one set of 20" pss cost 2.2k if you order from tirerack or about 2.8k from local shops. For the back 285 size, make sure you dont get the ferrari one (denoted by k1 marking) as it has a shallower thread depth. For front only got ferrari one version.
