how old and what is the mileage of your e46?

as recommended, 1 no need to touch forever.

2 and 3 are as per inspection 1 and 2 schedule.

4 is every 2 years regardless of whether your car moves or not.

outside mechanic can do item 1 if you really want it. ironically PML will never do it for you coz factory doesnt allow it to be opened up for servicing, only for repairs.

all of the above should be done at one of the major independent bmw specialist workshops stated in our homepage coz these are extremely simple standard jobs that PML charges a bomb for.

Thanks... that's very helpful information.

The car just pass 4 years and the mileage is at 45Km.

I have another query, there is loud humming voices coming from the rear wheel. Was tool by my mechanic that the bearing is spoilt. Quoted ~S$250 for labour and parts to replace one set. Any comment on that ?

Cheers

45km?? or 45,000km or 145,000km?

If its 45,000km the wheel bearing has worn out, its premature failure.

Anyway, S$250 for parts and labour sounds about right.

Just replaced my front wheel bearings outside. Parts are about $175, don't know about labour cuz i had a couple of things fixed as well. So $250 sounds right, ballpark range.

Cheers!

Waaa..4 years, 45,000km. underused man..sounds like ya got a good ride. How much?

Oh ya RB, wot abt transmission fluid? change @ 50,000km?

Stamford does a reasonable ATF change at $30 labour if you supply your own ATF. They use their ATF in the suck and replace mode. Where they basically suck out say 1 L of ATF thru the dipstick port of the gearbox, then replace with 1L of new ATF. Repeating the cycle till the ATF is clean. Did on my volvo at 40K km, and the ATF was black. Box damned smooth after that.

Most likely is the wheel bearing, but it is a little early for the bearing to pack up. Make sure it is not from the tires. Worned performance tires can make loud noises. Otherwise you will changing bearing unnecessary, and still not solve your problem.

Well, Bernard from BVO came along for a ride and diagnoised it as the wheel bearings. U should ask him to come with u whilst u drive around so that he can detect it for u too!
