Traffic Info on iDrive Sat Nav

I just discovered that my iDrive sat nav on my F13 has traffic info. It s PI from UK. Credit to omshks for discovering this on his F13. It appeared after I upgraded my GPS Map at Soundwerkz to the 2012 SE Asia Premium Maps

I have a Traffic Info On/Off button on the left side of the DVD player

The traffic info comes from some radio source (?TMC or Traffic Message Channel). I don't know if this is the same as the Traffic Info available on certain locally available portable GPS devices.

According to the manual, the other source is BMW Assist which is through the Internet and gives you really cool real time updates but only available in Europe. See this link. The technology is awesome. It basically analyses cell phone users moving along the roads and picks up slow downs.

Anyway, here are the screens (from presumably TMC). When I click on traffic info, I get a list of the traffic updates, listed in order of distance from my current location.

The yellow highlighted areas indicate heavy traffic on the map

Orange is "queuing traffic", whatever that means.

This is the 3D perspective map and the 2D map on the split screen. The traffic info on the previous screen (Balestier) is marked with Triangles, indicating the direction of travel (in this case both directions). My quidance route is highlighted in white., as are all the traffic hotspots.

If only we could add custom POIs as well -- speed traps, red light cameras etc....

confirm it will be deleted or dekitted at LTA during inspection, just like super dark tinted window...

Wow... Tks for the update bro bonedoc! Now I gotta go check whether my car has the same button. Highly doubt it though - it wasn't even an option for picking on the spec sheet at PML KNN.....

Thanks bro, for the heads up. What I can't figure out is why isn't this a listed option in PML's spec sheet? Sigh. Another grouse for me to remember, when I vote the next time... I mean, buy my next car.

My PI F10 also has the same button. I always wonder what it does until i recently updated to 2012 Navi and discoverd all the live traffic feeds coming in.

Wobbles and I have been comparing notes (specs). You can check yours on this web site. Just use the last 7 digits of your chassis number

Very cool... once you registered, you can look for the places you want to go on google maps and "send" to the car

no need to fiddle with the idrive control to enter destination!

Yup mine same i have all of your options including 612 and 616

What is also worth noting is starting from F series of car, there is no longer any option 823 'hot-climate version' for PML cars. Last time when i look up PML's E60 i still see it.
