Hi bros,
Good day.

This month my C200 will be scrap and I have been looking for a new preowned car. After searching 528i LCI for a few days, I happened to discover in the youtube that 528i has a manufacturing flaw. The timing chain problem which make me think twice about getting it.

Hope brothers here can shed some lights. Is the 528i reliable? I was looking for late 2013 to 2015 unit.

Thanks in advance.
Cheers.
Roger

Bmw 528 had the n20 engine until 2016

Just have this checked and replace. About 1k

The timing chain appears to be the number one fault on the N20, however, this issue is mostly prevalent on engines and vehicles produced prior to 2015. In January 2015, BMW redesigned the timing chain components, which seems to have significantly reduced the chance of failure.

In USA For certain vehicles produced prior to 2015, BMW offered an extended warranty for 7 years/70,000 miles on the timing chain and components.

It is a reliable engine. Just some regular maintenance items
Like gaskets every 4-5 years
Needs to be maintained. Pre emptive
Then all is well.

Thank you bro.
This means if I gotten a 528i (manufactured before Jan 2015), I just have to get it checked and replaced with redesigned timing chain components if needed, and I should be safe right?

Cheers!

Yes. Get it fixed once and enjoy it. All cars needs some fixing anyway. But Bmw are a great drive. As they say as Long as it keeps you smiling, keep it.
You know where the specialist shows are.
