Sure, Arsenal are showing signs of a meltdown but I think it would be a blessing in disguise as they now can fully focus on the premiership. Well, knowing Arsenal.... sigh! (Bro Highbury will remind me to sing George Michael's Faith)

Man City??? You dont think Chelsea are still up for it?

Frankly, after the past few weeks, maybe we should all be singing Careless Whisper :

Time can never mend the careless whispers of a good friend
To the heart and mind, ignorance is kind
there's no comfort in the truth
pain is all you'll find

Should've known better ....

Ok Ok better be positive ... Gotta have Faith! Faith Faith!

I think the reason is that Arsenal can only play with one tactic...... the strengths of Arsenal is in the build-up in the midfield area. The likes of Fabregas, Nasri, Wilshere has been fabulous to watch - perhaps the most flamboyant of BPL teams.

But take a look at the strikers. Only Van Persie is felt on the field. Chamakh and Bendtner are mostly passengers. Compare that to Utd's out of form Rooney, Hernandez and Berbatov......

Defence is another issue. Goalkeepers' injury is unfortunate, but Djourou, Squillaci and Koscielny look lightweight even when compared to Smallings, Evans and Brown......

Agree. I think our midfield is our best area but the defence and strikers have room for improvement. Don't even get me started on the keepers. We need to strengthen these areas and then we would be so worried each time there is an injury somewhere. We need quality replacements.

I think the problem is that Arsenal is not as rich and can't afford to spend ridiculous sums like
50m on one player or high prices for Rooney and Berbatov. Heck, what Chelsea spent on Torres could buy up the whole Arsenal team. I can't remember AW spending more than 20m on any player before.

Yes, Chelsea and ManC look better on paper. Their bank accounts look much better also. They will always look better.

Well, at the start of the season, all the pundits (especially those on TV) said Arsenal would struggle to finish in the top four. Now with ten games to go, we are second favourites.

There is still some way to go and we may yet collapse but I think Arsenal has given a good account of itself considering what everyone was thinking at the start of the season.

On ManU, at least SAF will be around for the showdown at the Emirates.

Re: The Barclays Premiership / Champions League Thread

Wenger's ROI is probably the highest among all BPL managers...

I think Wenger is thinking like a accountant, focusing on organic improvement. This strategy takes time, but if the team is left intact, can turn out to be extremely effective. Look at Barca. Unfortunately, you still need to spend $$$ to keep you pillars around. Hence no one bothers to think of buying Messi, Xavi, Iniesta or evan Bojan, Pedro, Busquets........

Also, Arsene is so focused on building a team around these youngsters, they dictate the play. Without them, there is no plan B.

If you observe Chelsea and Man City or Spurs, it appears that there are at least 2 sets of players interchangeable for different opponents.

Chelsea can use Drogba or just simply Torres and Anelka or Kalou. Midfleld is either more flair with Lampard or more physiques with Essien and Mikel. This team needs no width.

Man City has so many midfielders it is confusing.

Spurs has 4 strikers plus VDV. And the defenders list is long....... but the 2 wingers stay.

In terms of monetary certainly yes, but a football manager ROI should be in terms of silverware
which is what the fans wants. Football club's ROI in monetary terms should be left to the
club marketing and sales department. i would think so....

Arsenal have money to spend.
Its just AW don't want to spend. He maintains a strict salary ceiling and keeps a lookout on the transfer kitty, only buying players he feels worth the dosh. :helpp!:

Maybe he thinks if he don't spend, the money is can form part of his year end bonus.

Agree Arsenal has no depth in the squad. But if you look at the "pillars" which have moved on, most of them don't achieve the same level of success they acheived with Arsenal. Hleb, Flamini, Vieira, Ljunberg, Pires, Gilberto Silva are just a few examples. Not mentioning 2nd string players such as Bentley & Larsson. So in a way Wenger was justified in selling them. Admit there are a few exceptions such as Henry (acheived success but never acheived the same form), Cole, Petit, Overmars, Van Bronckhorst, Anelka...but these are examples which wanted to leave due to differences or wanting to take up new challenges.

The main problem is still that Wenger doesn't want to pay market price to replace key players which he lost. Trying to find undervalued unpolished gems in the market is a skill of his which should be respected, but these youngsters need time to find their feet...thus the reason for 6 years w/o a trophy. Admit that as an Arsenal fan I find this extremely frustrating. Sometimes I wish Wenger would just open to chequebook to sign the established players but I respect his ideology too much and am stuck as a Gooner for life.

Come on you Gunners!!

Well said earlier Dash. Manager's ROI have to include finances as well. If we anyhow spend ... we could end up like Leeds. Remember ... we don't have a rich godfather shareholder like the other clubs (yet).

AW has accountant thinking cos he is an ecomomics graduate. He is the best at finding unpolished gems and value adding. Wish he was my stockbroker!

Arsenal to win the BPL . Dash, since u take arsenal can you sms the Liverpool team to kelong the game against us. Arsenal win BPL I buy you Mee Goreng, Teh Tarik and Roti John. We can also bungkus one prata to send to Kenny (Dalglish not Kentonna).

Cannot lei. We all fair play one, not kelong.
That's why we never complain referee until they kena death threats then retire, nor do our managers get 5 match bans.
Pls try your best on our match. :)
And please please please whip Man U proper and good when u host them.
They already without baby 哪里。
Last I read he wanna earn Ronaldo wages n play in a league where defenders play like Lim Tong Hai.

Re: The Barclays Premiership / Champions League Thread

Ok man. We play fair and square.
Of course, we try to whack ManU. I'm only worried that our squad has enough players and mental strength to last until the showdown on 1 May.

Re: The Barclays Premiership / Champions League Thread

Man C and Pool both out of Europa ....

Re: The Barclays Premiership / Champions League Thread
