we give u FA cup u give us BPL.nx season we let u have BPL ai mai???

Why Jon, U panic right? I can see you sweating ... Arsenal 3points behind and a game in hand with ManU still to come to the Emirates.

Frankly, ManU's main tough games are almost over. The remainder of the run-in from here on is more difficult for Arsenal than ManU as we have more away games.

Maybe we should put in the reserve team for the FA Cup. The whole Arsenal team looks tired against Barca.

Re: The Barclays Premiership / Champions League Thread

Barca not easy to play....they have so many wonderful players....
but I just felt that for all their attacking verve Arsenal had, they have not really replaced their midfield engine and leader they lost in Viera.

if it was the older Arsenal team with Viera, Pires, Ljungberg and Bergkamp....it might've been a different result.
Cesc Fab is good and better than Viera in other ways...but he aint as as hard as Viera.

Anyway, look forward! Go for the BPL crown! GO GO GO!!!!

Oh well, Arsenal were outplayed... but v.Persie's sending off was the turning point.

yeah!!! so happy arsenal knocked out. now we can gun for the premier league.

Think will only apply to european games.

Anyway Arsenal didn't deserve to go through. Totally outplayed by Barca...

Wouldn't count on Arsenal winning anything this season. The Carling Cup was our best chance and that was screwed up.

Shucks!!

Barca outplayed us in the first half but I think we held out well until the "kelong" backpass by Cesc. In the second half, when we got the equaliser, I thought the momentum would swing to us just like the first game. Then RVP got sent off. That was pivotal and we lost the game because of that. We didn't have any outlet from defending the Barca pressure which meant that Barca would get the ball and start attacking again. It is debatable whether RVP should have walked. I mean he took a shot at goal. It wasn't as if it was a bad tackle. Nobody starts to waste time with 30 mins still left. Spoilt the game.

I guess the upside is that Arsenal can concentrate on the BPL and as the other English teams progress, they will have more games to play. Come on ManU!!

*rubs mouth with chilli*

Come on ManU! Go all the way to the Final and lose to Barca.[/QU

Fibreglass thought he was wearing Barca jersey last night.

And yes i miss Viera.

Ok Banter aside. I have to be honest with myself on this.

The Arsenal team plays 5 games in 14 days. Towards the end of the Barca game, I could see that they started to look tired. I don't know if it was the effect of the RVP sending off lowering their morale.

If we compare this to the Liverpool team that whacked ManU, the difference in the passion and energy levels would be obvious.

On a technical skill level I think the Arsenal first team can beat ManU this weekend but they will be very pan-chet and ManU would have had a full week's rest to recover from the rotan session by Liverpool.

That's why I think gotta throw in some reserves and fresh legs.

Re: The Barclays Premiership / Champions League Thread

so if rvp did not hear the whistle, is that the best shot he can muster in a 1v1 situation? not even a shot on target?

i find that hard to believe for someone praised by fabragas as the complete striker :naughty:

Re: The Barclays Premiership / Champions League Thread

From the video replay on mio Stadium website, it does appear than Robin van Persie was trying to shoot the ball at goal rather than kicking the ball away. I feel the referee should have given him the benefit of the doubt instead of booking him. As a neutral (I am a Man Utd fan), I feel that the game might have ended with a different result if the striker was not sent off. Barca may have played better football, but It would at least have been a fairer contest.

Actually, did he hear the whistle? The central defender and the goalkeeper stopped playing..... granted, it could be that they stopped because they saw the linesman's flag but VP did not...... but yeah, even that shot, if intended, went haywire.

Against Barca, Arsenal's shortcomings showed. Both teams adopted the same passing strategy in the midfield for control, but Barca did it much better. Fabregas was alone versus the Barca midfielders. So not his shortcomings. Had he been in the Barca team, he would have looked like a Xavi or Iniesta.

Yes, the 1 second lapse was too short to conclude that VP tried to waste time.

Granted, it does not change anything. Fact is - Barca was still the better side.

First leg, Barca was the better team as well... but still, Arsenal won.

Re: The Barclays Premiership / Champions League Thread

Strangely subdued Man U vs Arsenal FA Cup quarterfinal. Seemed like neither team really wanted to win.

Kudos to the Brazilian twins playing the wingers, must have surprised the gunners.

Welcome back, Valencia....
