Supersprint on 6cylinder M54 engine

I'm sure there must be some of u here on the forum who have fitted the Supersprint exhaust system (rear muffler and the section before it - ie. 2 pic kit) on a 6 cylinder M54 engine. Could i have some feedback on the system and possibly a listen as i am considering installing this soon (would prefer the Eisenmann as it seems very well made but as it has no LTA approval..dont want the hassle). Thanks.

Re: Supersprint on 6cylinder M54 engine

May I know what is your ultimate objective?

- Get better audible FX / feedback?
- Incremental BHP by reducing the exhaust back-pressure?
- Or just visuals from behind?

Re: Supersprint on 6cylinder M54 engine

What i want is:
(1) better visuals
(2) freer exhaust flow (better throttle response or slightly better mid/upper rpm power..like 5bhp cos u cant really get much more from an NA engine)
(3) nice metallic raspy tone (like on the M3). I definitely do NOT like boomy/loud exhaust tones.

Was quoted $1650. Is this about right?

Re: Supersprint on 6cylinder M54 engine

ahh... i've heard 2 of my brudders running on it .. sat in it.. and all i can say is that u wont go wrong with .. :)

Muffler alone can't achive that sound or anywhere near that.
If u want a raspy sound, u should consider de-catting but it's highly illegal.

Re: Supersprint on 6cylinder M54 engine

Actually pak... de-catting it won't really give the effect, it's by removing the resonator then u'll get the rapsy sound..

This for sure, it'll be a big diff frm the stock exhaust.

Honestly.. you'll hardly feel anything...

(3) nice metallic raspy tone (like on the M3). I definitely do NOT like boomy/loud exhaust tones.
you can't get the rapsy tone without going loud.. so you'd have to choose .. can't really have the best of both here.. cause if u buy the SS with the sport midpipes, you're looking at slightly bassy and more of a sporty sound.. thats about it, to me.. sounds wonderful..

Re: Supersprint on 6cylinder M54 engine

For Ah Peks like me who like soft exhausts, SS and Eisenman top the list. The rest are too boomy. Performance gains by changing just the muffler and resonator? Nah.

Maybe you will "feel" that your car is faster cos the volume of your engine went up.

You want real gains from your exhaust, you will need headers, decat, change/remove resonator and change muffler...

Thanks input
I think de-cat + resonator removed should give that effect.

Re: Supersprint on 6cylinder M54 engine

Price of 1650 is about right. Guess u got em quoted from Jeep Chee ?

Altho the finishing (weld/seams) is not that great compared to Eisenmann, u do get the mid pipes onwards which is pretty decent. Its gotta nice sound as well not too drony/boomy in e cabin.

Re: Supersprint on 6cylinder M54 engine

Sorry if I seema bit daft here but may I know what is a resonator? If best, can somebody provide a pic for it? Thanks for the help...

Re: Supersprint on 6cylinder M54 engine

the resonator is the rectangular like box before your muffler.

sorry no pic.. but not that hard to spot.. you've only got 2 cats and one resonator.

So shaaz, if I remove the resonator, the sound will be raspy? Do I need to replace the resonator with anything or just straight through?

it'll be very rapsy... and loud too.. just bear in mind.. what ur'e getting wont be anything close to the M3, IMO the the rapsy sound frm the M3 is nice.. the one coming out frm urs will be loud and rapsy .. err.. more towards " can tell the exhaust been touched"...

you've got 2 ways u can do it.. firstly.. u can cut it out .. replace em with 2 pipes, or u can just empty the resonator.. 1st option i think better cause if u fin it too loud.. u bring ur resonator back and ask them to weld it back.

Cool advice, thanks!

Re: Supersprint on 6cylinder M54 engine

Hi, since this topic is abt changing to SS mufflers and stuffs..anyone touch on the exhaust manifold as well?? I saw on the SS website that they do have headers(race) for the M54 series..Was thinking of replacing the headers but our orginal headers has 2 oxygen sensors on them..one on the top centre of the manifold on each header and the other is somewhere near the cat before the mid section..whereas the SS race headers located their 2 O2 sensors near to the cat area..Was wondering if our orginal O2 sensors can plug into the SS ones as it seem not long enuff due to the different position on the SS headers.. Btw replacing the headers require the engine to be lifted up so the headers can be acessed? If after we replace the SS race headers will the engine ck lite illuminate?

Any advise??....:)

Re: Supersprint on 6cylinder M54 engine

ok who wants to hear come for next meetup....i demonstrate la...manifold, de-cat and SS.....wear ur ear plugs...

You can drop by either Juzz 4 Cars or BVO , both have headers for ur car and will have no check lights at all. Engine does not need to be lifted but it'll take about half a day to install it, they'll need ur car to cool off first. both workshops are under the resources page,
