Service Interval Exceeded : Shutdown?!

It becomes negative. Don't worry too much about it, since you've already booked a servicing.

No worries man... I don't think that the computer will shut you out of the car just because you have exceeded the servicing warning by a bit... now if something catastrophic were to happen, then I dunno what can and might happen... :silenced:

Re: Service Interval Exceeded : Shutdown?!

Hi my 320i is hitting 55,000km, i think the servicing light flashed at 50,000km? the car is past the 3 year warranty by PML and i drive it very gently. So far all system checks on the onboard computer are ok.
Can i wait till early next year to service the car as i really need it during the december holidays.
Does it make any difference? My friend told me to have it serviced outside by other workshops but i dont trust them. Then he told me to wait till a flashing indicator appears before sending in for servicing as it is already past the warranty period and will not make any differnce?

Re: Service Interval Exceeded : Shutdown?!

when you reach 5.5k over the recommended service indicator the cars goes into shutdown mode and will need to be towed to PML because they are the only one who have the software to unlock.......... just joking.

I think a lot more folks here trust the 'other workshops' more than PML. ;)
Just check out the Site Sponsor listings for workshops near your area. Shouldn't take more than 2hrs and they have all the equipment to diagnose your car anyway and service is also more personal.

Re: Service Interval Exceeded : Shutdown?!

Ok thanks i will. But can i wait till early Feb just b4 CNY? I was thinking i just top-up engine oil (its at 1/2 full mark) now and wait another 1.5 months.

As i said all the onboard systems check out ok and i am not driving up north...so it should be ok? thanks

Re: Service Interval Exceeded : Shutdown?!

It's not OK fren. Not when your engine oil is at 1/2 full mark. I would rather find 2 hours and have it (engine oil) replaced than risk anything thing else. Any unnecessary wear and tear to engine will not be felt until it's too late.

It's NOT ok. Or at least, buy 2 litres of engine oil from petrol station and pour it in. But it will be wasted once u send for servicing in 1.5months time.

It is ok if u r willing to pay a lot of $$ juz to get rid of sludge. It is worse now that u r not driving up north. There are less circulation of oil.

Anyway, good luck!!

Re: Service Interval Exceeded : Shutdown?!

Hi all i just wanted to share my very frustratiung experience with all bros. If you check the history of this thread you will note i first had major oil leak on 23 Jan 09. PML charged me SGD2,700/- to fix what they said was a gasket leak.

In between then and now (Dec 09) barely 11 mnths later i also had a failure of aircon compressor (another SGD1,700).

Now I again see very low oil levels and i got the BMW service mechanic (24 hr) to inspect vehicle. They say there is a leak and I sent the car to PML saying this should be covered by repair warranty. PML's reply was that this was a new leak. More money. I reluctantly agreed, i had no choice. It took them 1.5 days to do the job and when i collected the car i noted they also did alot of other work.

I did not question them. Afterall this was PML, i thought, and they would not rip us off like some outside mechanic. I checked the oil level BEFORE i drove the car back and it showed at least 75% oil level. So I was quite happy. Less then 20 mins into the drive i checked again and the oil level had dropped by 50% back to approx 25% level. It was still ok to drive but the oil level was very low.

I called the 24hr BM service mechnic again and he said there was oil leak. In fact he showed me the SAME LEAK that was identified by the 1st mecahnic. THE PML PEOPLE DID NOT EVEN FIX THE ORIGINAL LEAK. Now I wonder what the fuck were they doing to the car for 1.5 days? What were they charging me for? WTF man!!! I was damm pissed off

I talked to the CSO and he insisted the leak was fixed. I told him his owm PML mechanic confirmed leak was still present. They reluctantly agreed to come pick up the car. Supposed to come at 10.30am, did not come at all. I called again and finally their man came at 5PM to get car. It took another 1 day to repair.

In the interim i reviewed their service log and noted they changed and charged for lots of stuff that was not related to the problem. They claim to replace a "Gearg Box Sleeve" that was damaged (SGD289). I assumed this referred to the leather covering encasing the gear but i know they did not change this. They also charged for fixing steering wheel "oil leak". (SGD400 over). Then they charged me SGD120 for polish when there is a SGD100 promotion for this.

Upon getting the car back (and the guy was over 2 hrs later delivering), i was partially pacified as i noted oil leak appeared fixed. I closely monitored the oil levels which stayed above 75% level for 2 days so i think it was ok. BUT THERE IS NOW A STRANGE SOUND FROM FORWARD WHEELS WHEN THE CAR GOES OVER SPEED BUMPS. This was not there before.

I am bringing the car back again to them to complain.....i am sooooo disappointed with the kind of servivce. Its clear this was a 1/2 past 6 job just because i drive a miserly 320i and not a 740.....

This is the last time i take my car to PML and the last time i will participate in any of their events. I am one frustrated and diappointed customer. My next car will definitely not be a BMW. My dad's 5 year old TOYOTA PICNIC is so much fewer problems by comparision.

Any advise from the brothers will also be much much appreciated. Thanks

Re: Service Interval Exceeded : Shutdown?!

I experienced the same as you on the oil leak thingy and from this forum and the number of complaints from the forummers, it appears to me this is an inherent fault of the E90. My ride was also sent back twice to PML to repair the oil leak but just that the 2nd time, I argued it should be still covered under repair warranty and refused to pay.

I too had the problem with air-con compressor (according to PML) but I chose to obtain a 2nd opinion from 2 air-con specialists, recommended by a bro in this forum and was told that it was due to air-con coil, not air-con compressor. In fact, both told me that BMW's air-con compressor rarely breakdown but the air-con coil is a common problem. Luckily, I did not listen to PML, who wanted to charge me $1,700 for the compressor which was not needed at all. :whythis: Lesson learnt: Get a second opinion instead of blindly following PML's advice.

Now I could'nt open my boot, whether using the remote or pressing the button in the car, any bro here experienced this? :furious:

if you aren't claiming warranty, runaway from PML as far as you can

Re: Service Interval Exceeded : Shutdown?!

seems an inherent problem for the 4pot valvetronics right from the e46 times, and also not resolved in the e90s.. although as far as i know the 6potters are not facing this issue.

its still a great car and marque, and i think our bro's problem here is NOT BMW, but its PML. many happy owners are usually not with PML after the warranty period lapses.

take 2nd opinions in watever you're told, esp those fm PML.
