As you all know, we all have been using our trusted BMW Castrol oils for some time and I also thought of keeping my m3 to manufacturer's settings. I am a stock guy after all.
I was using Castrol TWS Motorsport oil that comes recommended from BMW for the M3. On the last track day, I was averaging 125 degrees oil temps after 4-5 laps of hard driving. It made me worry a little so I did some research on alternative oils. Then going in and out of Boss Motorsports I saw a big sticker with a WTCC car with Liqui Moly endorsed on it. I used to think that all these oil shit was some money making excercise as I never trusted other oils other than Mobil and Castrol. Aftermarket oils like OWS did not work well for me when I had the 335 and the oils ended up making the oil temps run slightly hotter. At least to me that was the case.
When I was shown the application guide to Liqui Moly stating that the e92 m3 had been tested and tried with this oil, i decided to try this oil with the CERATEC engine protection additive.
Yesterday on the way up to track, I consistently upshifted and downshifted many times to catch up with faster cars and even managed to get close to my top speed limit. Sustaining 200 over km/h for a good 3-4 mins and my oil temps were just slightly over 100 degrees about 105-106 degrees. Previously on short NS Runs, the oil temps were about 110 degrees and I am very sensitive to what goes around in my car and the normal temps I am used to see. So definitely a good benefit here. Also, the Castrol's I used tend to cool down much slower which is the best part about the Liqui Moly. I will talk more about this on track work below.
On Track, my oil temp gauge was in between 100 degrees and the 125 degrees marker. Meaning it was only about 120 degrees tops on the hardest laps. It did not even touch the 125 marker. On my last track day, the needle was spot on the 125 marker!! This is definitely such a difference as confirmed with other M3 drivers who were at the track yesterday. And I remembered I needed to do about 1.5 laps to bring it down to 110 degrees. When i cooled down yesterday, by the time i was at the back straights, the temps was down to 110 already. Less than a complete lap to cool down to a good level where you can start pushing the car again.
All in all, am very satisfied with the Liqui Moly and I will continue to use them indefinitely. This product really works and I have tested it quite extensively.
Hehehehehehhe....
