Replacing drive shafts

CSS

Hi,

Would like to find out what are the symptoms of a worn or defective half-shaft (the shaft linking the final drive to the wheels). Is it a scratching, knocking or a clunking noise?
Are these parts prone to wear, I seldom hear people changing these drive shafts on the E46s?

I am trying to detect the source of some rear end noises.

Thanks very much.

I also just changed my drive shaft not long ago ... you may want to call me @ 91073742 ...

Is yours an E46? My car done 40,000km and it's a knocking noise.
Wat would be a good time to call you?

Thanks

Re: Replacing drive shafts

The drive shaft would be the one linking your rear differential to the wheels. Usually, they don't wear out. I have changed mine to a larger diameter for strength only! If you hear clunking noise, better have your rear differential check out instead. It may give way soon. And when they do, - have a tow truck ready.
