Hi Guys

Need advice.. first time kena hit and rear bumper cracked.. definitely going to change whole bumper.. what is the correct procudure ah? Go to PML or outside workshop? Send car to workshop first and claim later? or call insurance agent or wat? sorry.. so many questions.. i have no idea what to do next.. took pictures and driver particulars already..

Re: Rear bumper kena hit.. What is the right procedure?

sorry to hear about this mishap! my opinion is to go to PML and check boot alignment and whether the reinforced bar is bent or not. while there, file your claim esp if both parties had signed the accident report form. do it asap (within 24 hrs i think, can't remember)

Re: Rear bumper kena hit.. What is the right procedure?

Kenna rear-ended means very unlikely your insurance claim will be against you. Make a report, send car to PML to check if chassis is affected. Having PML's assessment and repair will help future clarifications if and when you need to sell the car.

Re: Rear bumper kena hit.. What is the right procedure?

oh dear jiejie sorry to hear that. the last time that happened to me i sent it to idac for assessment then i let a private mechanic handle the claim for me, also did my new bumper with him. but i think the pml check would be important.. shld've done that. :(

Re: Rear bumper kena hit.. What is the right procedure?

Thanks guys.. will drop by tomorrow morning at PML then.. the report you guys mentioned is what report? Police report?

Re: Rear bumper kena hit.. What is the right procedure?

report to your insurer i believe.

Re: Rear bumper kena hit.. What is the right procedure?

gotta make report with your vehicle insurer within 24 hrs
better go to pml....hopefully they will make u coffee while they attend to your case
anyway, its claim the other party so no worries abt the high bill going to pml unless your policy got some special regulation

Re: Rear bumper kena hit.. What is the right procedure?

what is ur insurance company? not all insurance company is part of IDAC, if not part of IDAC, then u will not need to file any report. just let pml handle for you. It happened to me before, i just leave the car at PML, they settle everything for me, including dealing with the other party's insurance plus repairs. they even give u a loan car. everything will be charged to the other party.
hassel free.....

Re: Rear bumper kena hit.. What is the right procedure?

ths IDAC thing doesnt exist anymore. all the insurance companies that endorsed it has backed out.

in future if u r in an accident that u are not in the wrong...do this.

1.stop your car at the point of accident
2.inspect damages
3.take fotos
4.if not injuries move your vehicle aside after fotos.
5.if injured call police n ambulance
6.exchange particulars. check his IC and asked for driving license if possible. If he cant produce call the police.
7.write a statement that has the other driver admitting his fault, include his name, ic, time and place of accident. Date it and have him/her sign on the spot.
8.look for witnesses if possible.
9.drive off and report to your insurer and workshop. usually the workshop (including pml) will help you file the insurer.

if its your fault....do not do not admit liability....or sign anything if you wanna be bastard n fight it out....
but then hor my view is like this...we all use the same roads...if you r wrong, screw it..admit it...

Re: Rear bumper kena hit.. What is the right procedure?

oh..idac no more ya.....good!!....it is very troublesome and a waste of time.

When I first got my license I was driving a fiat uno and accidentally grazed someone's rear bumper while moving off after picking someone up from the mrt. There was some scuff marks and a slight dent on her bumper...no damage to my hardy fiat uno haha. The driver asked me to sign this paper that stated I was responsible for all damages and refused to let me pay her and settle on the spot. Being the blur new P-plate driver I was quite scared so just signed. Later on after report and all that...his insurance company wana bill me 1k+ for new bumper and spray. Nothing I could do cos i signed it...knn still damn angry about it when I think of it.

Re: Rear bumper kena hit.. What is the right procedure?

OK.. I am back from PML.. freaking tired...This was what i went through..

1. CSA went to assess the car and make sure chasis not affected.
2. Fill up the form with both driver's particulars and accident details.
3. CSA gave me 2 options:

a. Claim my own insurance company first, so that the car can be repaired the soonest. Downside is I have to pay the (excess + report fee + Loss of use) first, then the insurance company will engage a lawyer to claim the other party and recove all the costs back to me. The whole process might take up to 6 mths and NCB will be affected during meantime until things settle and it will be reinstated back.

b. Get a quotation from PML and claim the other driver's insurance company. Car cannot be repaired until the other party agreed on the claim and this process might take up to 6 mths as well.

This is tiring..so complicated that is not even my fault.. anyway, i guess i will go for Option 1 then. And thanks to those who sms and call me.. and Sam to be there with me at PML.. Thanks guys.....:)

mich, personally option 2 will be better because once u settled for option one its going to be draggy and both insurance company will take forever to fight it out... if u choose option 2 keep pushing and making noise it might be settled and it 100% wont affect ur NCB...option one u might be risking the other party's insurance refuses to pay 100% therefore u are risking ur NCB

agree with teddy...
i took option 2 the other time as well...it is a much safer route although the waiting time is longer...
