Rear Bike Rack - 1 series hatchback

Hi

Just want to check if anyone has any idea which rear bike rack can fit the 1 series hatchback? I heard of the Saris-bone series but not sure whether it can fit the 1 series.... are there any other reputable brands out there (don't want my bike to fall off mid-way!)?

Basically, I want a bike rack that is pretty easy to install and the chances of scratching the paintwork during installation is minimised... I am a fussy person lah :p

Thanks in advance for any kind help!

Cheers and have a nice weekend!

PS> Not sure if I've posted this in the right section... Mods please remove / move this if so. Thanks!

Re: Rear Bike Rack - 1 series hatchback

the best bike rack there is....SARIS. it will fit. and all bike racks will scratch. u can insert newspaper at the hook areas. they work.

i had a saris with 3 bikes to frasers hill on a 530 black. 180kmh.....with newspaper insert in between hooks n trunk. came back...polish off the newspaper stains easily.

Re: Rear Bike Rack - 1 series hatchback

Hi bro toto,

Thanks for the advice :)

I won't be doing 180km/h or anything even remotely close to that, so SARIS will be good

Will go for fitting at reputable bike shops.

Cheers!

Re: Rear Bike Rack - 1 series hatchback

I have a Saris 3 fitted on my 120i hatchback, so far its not exactly that stable becoz the top 2 legs are not completely resting on the rear windscreen but its good enough for me to drive around without dropping my 2 mountain bikes.

Re: Rear Bike Rack - 1 series hatchback

Can anyone advise of the price range of a basic Saris which can hold one or 2 bikes?

I am looking to use it on a 320i sedan.

Lastly, lobangs for it? Have been trying to find in the used market place of a few forums.

Re: Rear Bike Rack - 1 series hatchback

Hi Humara, thanks for the info. Will check out the contact points before I buy :)

Aside to eng98, good question! I would also like to find out how much a typical model costs.... you may want to post a "WTB" in the classified section if you want a 2nd hand one?

Alternatively, you can try the following links to ads from togoparts.com:
togoparts.com - Bike Marketplace - For Sale : Saris bone 3
http://www.togoparts.com/marketplace/ad_details.php?aid=365614
and a lot others... seems like there is no lack of sellers... just do a search at the website I indicated above

But want to warn you that you need to find out the market price before you commit :)

Re: Rear Bike Rack - 1 series hatchback

U can also check out the price in Chain Reaction Cycle. It might be cheaper than local bike shop.

Re: Rear Bike Rack - 1 series hatchback

On a related issue, any brothers here got any info on BMW bicycles? I'm quite interested in picking up cycling again, but I'm a noob, so any advise would be gladly accepted!

U pray toto miss ur query. Forget about BMW bicycles.

The most important thing is to get started with any bicycle to build up stamina. The best way is to join cycling group.

Juz now, my lady friend told me she ride Pinarello Dogma (Top range racing bike). But she was overtaken by folding bike.

Re: Rear Bike Rack - 1 series hatchback

Din miss it. If u wanna buy a car buy a BMW. If u wanna buy a bike buy a bike. Not a BMW bike. 100% poser value. Very luffable

Re: Rear Bike Rack - 1 series hatchback

Thanks guys. Just that I have NFI whatsoever on good bikes - haven't ridden one in over 30 years - and what I saw in the BMW lifestyle magazine that they keep sending me was amazing: just how far bikes have come.

Thanks for the heads up though - will definitely give it a miss then.

Re: Rear Bike Rack - 1 series hatchback

I have a small group of friends who ride Folding bike (mainly Brompton) on Saturday nite almost every fortnight. We starts from Potong Pasir MRT and end at Syed Alwi Road corner kopi tiam. Total distance about 60km. Total time (inc break in btw) is about 4hrs. Age range from 20+ to 60 y/o. U are welcome to join.

NeilPryde Bikes 2012

try this link. Not BMW brand Bikes, but it's designed by BMW Designworks USA. So pretty close too :laughlik:

Neilpryde is a well known brand in Windsurfing. They are venturing into bikes, using their experience in wind dynamics and carbon fiber. The bike looks nice.

I am also in the midst of looking for a bike. This one is definitely out of my reach. Can only drool.

Thanks. I did check, and also looking at amazon. CRC, Right now they are having free shipping to Singapore for orders over £100. A saris now is shipping free to Singapore. Considering......

IMHO, Italian is 1 of the best bike designer around.

For carbon racing bike, i would buy Pinarello Prince. It is a piece of art. The cost is from $20k & up. Juz go to Cycleworx to have a look at it.

What is most important question, is the cyclist able to unleash the bike full potential? Before looking at expensive machine, i would rather buy something cheap & bulit up my stamina.

I only ride 16" foldy but i overtook lots of rider on racing bike LY in OCBC cycle.

Lastly, forget about bike rack lah. Juz ride to the starting point of group. How far can Singapore be?

Re: Rear Bike Rack - 1 series hatchback

Actually, what bro davidtch said makes A LOT of sense. I mean, I could go & buy an M5, but my fcuking non-existent driving skills would mean I get smoked by Ceebics all the time @ the twisties.

I'll go the humble route & start to get myself back in shape, then build up stamina, then only show my unker face with the cycling bunch. Now, super malu if I turn up & then, people have to tow my bike home because I can't cycle the distance.

Re: Rear Bike Rack - 1 series hatchback

yes, bro wobbles, I am also trying to get myself in shape and build up some stamina before I start looking for regular cycling groups to join... :)

Re: Rear Bike Rack - 1 series hatchback

Run once twice week up to 5km. With running, ur heart will usually hit 80% of max heart rate. That would help to lose some weight & build endurance.

Lift some weight & do sit up to bullt core muscle strength.

I am trying to start out in cycling, so quite fearful about riding on the road. Distance is not an issue. I wanted the rack so that I can go to ECP to train. I recently serviced a 15-year old mountain bike which has been collecting dust at home for the purpose of getting used to cycling seriously.

I am also looking for a road bike in the near future. Planning to do some swim bike run activities :)

To ride on the road, u need to be gungho & show ur presence. I usually ride in the middle of the left lane to force car to overtake on the right lane. Riding in a group would help also.

Riding in ECP is a bad idea especially week end. It is overcrowded.

If ur home is next to Park Connector, ride on these park connector. Not sure, juz drop me a note where u stay. I may know where is the nearest park connectors.
