Re: Centre pipe
Guys, look at it this way, If you purchase a full LTA compliant exhaust system and want to remain as a goodie boy, don't touch the cats or resonators. Well, if you can find an aftermarket exhaust system with cats and resonators deleted and still LTA compliant, please post contact here.
BUT, and I do mean BUT, if you purchase an aftermarket LTA compliant exhaust system (be it center pipes or mufflers), then start cutting either resonators/cats or swapping out the headers, then it's completely non-compliant, no arguments. With that in mind, WHY STOP? GO ALL THE WAY! Remove cats, remove resonators, take em all off if you're already on the dark side, might as well go all the way right? It's either YOU'RE IN or YOU'RE OUT...there's no 'little bit only what....'
Some warned me against the removal of resonators, staying that there'll be a rattling noise. I went for it, and found nothing to support that claim. It's all fine and dandy. No droning whatsoever, high speeds or low. Exhaust note gets a little bit more low toned, not bassy, absolutely fantastic to drive, and a tad bit more aggressive...just a tad bit. But removal of cats will be a different story. It will have a more significant effect on the exhaust note. The flow will increase dramatically (i.e. with aftermarket mufflers and center pipe) Don't bother to put one of those fake cats on which in fact is a straight pipe through an empty shell coz during inspection it's easy as hell to detect.
So, the verdict is:
Wannabe good boy - LTA compliant mufflers, then play with tips.
Bad boy mini - Non compliant race mufflers and custom-cut center pipe.
Bad boy brother - Bad boy mini with cat and resonator deleted.
TP Magnet - All of the above plus aftermarket headers.
Just a gauge, and definitely personal opinion....
