Pump your own petrol

I remember reading here that some forumners won't let pump attendants come anywhere near their rides... now I know why.

Last night the attendant at SPC Golden Shoe snapped off the thin, plasticky line that holds the pump cap to the car - and kept quiet about it! I only saw it when I washed my car this morning. :furious:

I actually said to him "xie xie ni, uncle" when I left the station. Dang!

Re: Pump your own petrol

i usually try to pump my car most of the time...

Re: Pump your own petrol

same happened to me is previous car.. they broked the rubber strap. anyway, i hv learn to not care too much about such things...just take it easy...i only worry that the pump head knock a dent on my car...so i will walk away after i make sure he puts the rubber 'shield' between car n pump head..

Re: Pump your own petrol

last night I defected caltex n went back to pump shell again. Mistake ! [ not the petrol ]

they left the cover[car body] opened, I didnt know until some driver on the other oncoming lane show me a finger. Knn I thought these people want to show me their middle finger :p

they also made one side of the rubber strip thingy come off, lucky the other end held on and didnt loose the strip, or else bring back for replacement PMl probably charged $XXX.

Also hor, the Bodoh spill some late ejaculated petrol onto my car's body and some inside the compartment. Luckily did scratch my car, otherwise will go back to the kiosk with my parang and sledge hammer.

Re: Pump your own petrol

usually i like to pump my own petrol because those idiots like to pump until your tank is full and spills out then they are happy. worse still, they dun bother to clean your car and leave the petrol to stain the paint!

Re: Pump your own petrol

i pump myself all the time.. i quickly get out of the car to tell him that i can pump myself. Firstly, the lean on ur car, put thier hands on it and they're never gentle... i even told him.. "uncle!!!.. dun touch the car!".. then he took his hands off the boot, look at it.. then act blur ...sed " huh??..apa apa??... nothing wat.. ". i sed there was a mark already, stupid handprints... he offered to wipe off , almost did... but the RAG he was using wld only do more damage.. so to save myself frm all these.. i just pump myself.. It's all goooood...

Re: Pump your own petrol

Good grief!

This reminds me of how McDonald's in the U.S. trains their staff: "If You Can Lean, You Can Clean" haha...

Re: Pump your own petrol

I feel like suggesting to the kiosk, give me extra 2% discount if I DIY. My blood pressure also will not shoot up whilst the petrol are filled. The last thing I want is to die from heart attack at a kiosk.

ah beng, i did tried this stance once. went back home to do some calculation later and found out that this cannot work. in ur case, if gas company give every 2% more to every customer, they will losing lotsa profits. this amount can translate to paying at least 100 fold of that the pump attendant full month salary.

hence, at most, the petrol station can give u is a extra box of tissue paper or a free can of softdrink. but if u really want to DIY, an discount amount no more than 0.1% maybe feasible but kinda pointless ultimately. :juggle:

Nevermind in that case after paying for the fuel, I will just grab 2 extra boxes of tissue on the way out :) 1 for me to bring home and wipe my dog's salivary mouth, and the other for the attendant to wipe his hands before he touches the next car.:)

I thought the pump has got a gauge or something that when the petrol level reach the nozzle, it shut off the flap? Just like the pang sai tang flushing system, stop when the tank is filled.

If this is the case, then should not have over-flowing incident mah.
Unless the uncle is trigger-happy and still pumping while withdrawing the pump.

Re: Pump your own petrol

95pct of the time I refuel at Mobil stn at Mounbatten and so far so good..
I guess the uncles know me well enough.

Re: Pump your own petrol

Actually the uncles here not bad already lar, there was once I pump my petrol in Malaysia, the pump attendant help me pump and then he didn't close the filler cap tight enough, and when I reached my destination, there was a very strong petrol smell and I thought it was petrol leak from my car....

Re: Pump your own petrol

there is supposed to be but don't always assume its working. When i pumped at the Esso at
2nd link, the damn thing wasn't working and petrol flowed out all over my car and on the ground.

Re: Pump your own petrol

Well guys you all have to learn to check your car after each pump.

As for me I practice locking my door and waiting in the aircon shop. Once everything is done, I will have to close the gas tank cover myself due to the fact that my car is lock. This will ensure that I will remember to check my car and make sure everything is ok and there is no spill too..

Else learn to live with it, even if u dont get scratches, you will still get scratches just by driving on the road.
