Petrol smell inside car

This occurred on and off recently, and seems to happen for a while only and after a long drive on the highways.

Initially I thought it could be th aircon carbonized filter needs changing but problem persists.

It seems like thepetrol smell came in via the aircon(oh where else can it come from). What is the possible issue here. Anyone encountered?

For me, it was because my petrol tank was leaking....

Re: Petrol smell inside car

The access to the in-tank petrol filter, float and pump are underneath your rear seat. So if your seals are not good fumes could get in from there. Not saying that is the source, but just so you know there is another avenue besides a/c. This is dangerous and you should get it checked out ASAP.

Re: Petrol smell inside car

Should be either fuel filter housing connector to hose or fuel pump connection to the hose area leaking. Both under the rear seat. I got this problem for my previous E60 and the petrol smell is strongest after pump full tank and cheong NSHW. Change and problem solved.

Re: Petrol smell inside car

If you can smell it means there's a leak. Mine leaked after hitting a structure below the car - causing the locking nut of the tank to crack. Can smell petrol inside and outside of the car.

Re: Petrol smell inside car

Remove the backseat and you should be able to detact if there is any recent petrol staining or smell.

Re: Petrol smell inside car

sometimes esp after pumping petrol and there happen to have some petrol spill on the floor at the gas station.

the petrol can transfer to your shoes and when you step into the car, the floor mats smell.

else, like the above.... please get your car checked

Does it happen all the time? If it is, it could be your fuel pump's connectors cracked... I experienced this in my previous ride but not current ride thgh.

Should not be that exp, but it is a messy job, best done when your fuel level is down to less than quarter tank.

Re: Petrol smell inside car

I am a changed and simple man these days. Only can afford to drive slower older 335, not M4.
Times are bad, even pump 92 octan petrol nia and do OCI every 25k km. Dont buy my 335 if I ever sell it.

Time to DIY oil change every 10km!

Btw, some 335s here can beat stock ///M3 or even a lightly modded one. I bro never say who.....
