Hi guys, got a couple of questions here which i hope someone can help me:

My current Headunit in my E46 (the one with cassette deck) cannot play MP3. I dun wan to lose the controls on my MF steering so i was wondering if I can just change my CD changer unit (while retaining my headunit) to one that can play MP3? If yes, which changer can i consider?

Does MP3 playing capability lies in the changer or the headunit?

Some advice are very much appreciated.

Thanks guys!

Re: Original BMW Business headunit and CD changer question

The original changer will not work with other makes of changers straight out of the box. You will need a converter to change the commands given by the BMW head unit to the language understood by your changer.

MP3 decoding is done at the changer end and the audio signals are passed to the head unit for amplification.

cheers

Thanks for the reply yendor.

Someone is offering to sell me the Alpine 6CD S634 mp3 changer. Will this work with my original head unit? Anyone has any comments on model?

I am curious on another thing, how do i select songs with my headunit for a MP3 CD changer?

Re: Original BMW Business headunit and CD changer question

Some of Alpine CD changer can player MP3 but the factory socket will not fit the Alpine CD changer.

U will need to buy a Alpine socket that converts the BMW head unit socket to Alpine socket and it will work. U should be able to find the part number in Alpine webpage but the local distributor is pretty crappy in terms of support.
