one of the many horrors of solar films

Guys,

I'm not sure what your experiences are with Solar films. Recently I did it with one of the many brands out there.

After doing it, I realised the following minor quirks...

1. Dirt stuck in between the film and windscreen
2. Stubbon air bubbles still around (1 week liao)
3. Demister strips have larger gaps betweem the strips and the part of the film that is in contact with the glass

Along with point 3, when you drive at night, the headlight of cars behind you will glare because of the strips of gaps around the demister strips.... its irritating the hell out of me....

Does anyone have this experience? or is this abnormal?

Would appreciate any feedback or advise, thanks!

PS: The heat rejection does work though, its just that there are these little quirks that I wasn't aware of. :(

1. Dirt stuck in between the film and windscreen
This really depends on where (the environment) they install the film on your car. my 1st car many years back, i installed V-cool, they did it in the shelter car park of the building, under such environment there is a possibility of dirt get stuck in between the film. This time, for my new baby, I did it at Cool&Lite (heavily used by PML), they did the installation in a closed aircon room, I think sure will still have some dirt get stuck, but for sure is a much better environment than open air car park.

2. Stubbon air bubbles still around (1 week liao)
It takes 2 weeks minimum for these bubbles to bye bye.

3. Demister strips have larger gaps betweem the strips and the part of the film that is in contact with the glass
you are not suppose to switch on the demister for at least 2 weeks. did you?

Re: one of the many horrors of solar films

I oni experience the particle stuck thing...as this is also my first time doing solar films I went back twice for them to redo my windows...after that I gave up as no matter what there will be a couple...mine's done in an aircon room too but it does not help that the room needs to open up for the car to go in.

bro, for no. 1), do go back to the agent that did the film for you...since its only a week, i'm sure they'll be able to remove the dirt and redo the film for you. cheers

Re: one of the many horrors of solar films

I just did mine car with Cool n Lite too. Still in the curing period so I can't really tell. But at the moment experience all those things you mentioned except the dirt part. If you just did it, let it cure and see the outcome.
P.S. Raining most of the time here, let it cure longer. I will asset the situation after about 3 weeks. at the moment just feel a bit darker...hahaha.

Re: one of the many horrors of solar films

i did mine with cool n lite... i did turn on the demister coz its been raining and the rear windscreen has fogged out..... no one told me anything about demisters.... but then again i didn't use the demisters for maybe 4 days...

the anti dazzle mirrors and the solar films are a bad combination man.... sheesh...

Re: one of the many horrors of solar films

not sure which brand of C&L you went to?

me went to Toh Guan branch and the manager - Wendy she is very helpful.

Re: one of the many horrors of solar films

if you turn on the demister.....i think you better bring it back for a check. Yes Toh Guan branch Wendy is more friendly. Do get it check, whole curing period is about 2 weeks, plus the rain I give it 3 weeks.
maybe the demister had created the air pockets.

Re: one of the many horrors of solar films

With anti-dazzle and tinted window, does it get very dark? Are you using the darkest for the rear ?

Re: one of the many horrors of solar films

just to share- my experience with 3m films is it will not affect the view of the rear even with anti-dazzle at night, which btw is a real gem this anti-dazzle thingy, and my tint is one of the darkest! What i like about this 3m is that you cannot actually see that there is a film on the windscreen, whereas my fren's film- C....L..... you can see the waves and distortion even when there are no bubbles, quite irritating....cheers

Dammit...should have known you before I did mine..:lol2: :lol2: :lol2: :lol2: I was in a dilemma between the 2.

Re: one of the many horrors of solar films

so where can we get this 3M file install?

Re: one of the many horrors of solar films

:) hi,

pls PM me if you need the contact who done mine- they actually will come to you, mobile team, pretty good as rec by my PML SE. btw, Ii have no affliation to them, just a satisfied customer, both my brother and i.:)

Re: one of the many horrors of solar films

But at the recent Motorshow, the 3M film package was the most expensive compared to VKool and Cool & Lite.

Well, I guess you get what you pay for, but at nearly 3X the price in comparison, I went for Cool & Lite.

Yes, no doubt the heat rejection figures for both 3M and VKool seem to be higher than Cool & Lite.

It has only been 2 weeks since the installation and I've been too busy to really inspect the workmanship closely. I'll post some feedback later.

Re: one of the many horrors of solar films

i did my tinting at cool and lite and have no problem at all... but one thing for sure is that i have to stand much closer to my car to lock and unlock due to the high rejection of the infra red... which means their film is quite good...
jus have to bear w the inconvenience....
