Welcome to the forum. When you say your SLK is a little anaemic, is it a four cylinder engine?
If so, you might want to try the M235i, which has the legendary BMW straight six engine. Alas Merc no longer makes straight 6 engines. The last Merc with a straight 6 I had was a W124 E300. Sweet engine. After that they went to V6, sigh...

Yup anaemic in reference to the 4-cyl engine, which feels a little under-powered sometimes. But I guess overall still okay, considering it's an entry level SLK. haha
I'll give your suggestion good thought. You aren't the first who have suggested the 235i..must be shiok to drive!
pple also tell me i have more of a beemer vibe...
