Noisy wipers

My windscreen wipers make a lot of noise when working as they judder and scrape on the windscreen. This occurs when the wipers start off from the neutral position and then again when they change direction at the end of their sweep cycle. This occurs despite driving in heavy rain ( ie. not dry windscreen ) and is very irritating.
PML changed the wipers but to no effect.

Anyone knows if there is anything that I can apply on to the windscreen or to the wipers to reduce this 'friction'?

Thanks

Dun apply anything, especially stuff like RainX which will make it worse. Try cleaning the windscreen properly as that is more effective.... Maybe someone in forum can advise u what to use for cleaning windscreen.

Re: Noisy wipers

Avoid stuff like Rain-X or any sort of polish on the windscreen.

If you had already put some of those stuff, try using a glass polish (Autoglym, Zaino, etc), and CHANGE the wiper blades.

For some serious cases, the only way is to change the front windscreen.

Re: Noisy wipers

You can try using the medium cut rubbing compound from 3M (from Homefix) to get rid of any impurities embedded on the surface of the windscreen. but..you will need alot of elbow grease to get it fixed.

For those guys with blurred vision on windscreen while wet wiping... you can use it as well...

Re: Noisy wipers

Change windscreen?...abit extreme leh. Think will try to use some commercial window glass cleaners and see how.

Sorry, but about the 3M cutting compound..Is it not a little abrasive?...won't it scratch the glass?

Thanks

Re: Noisy wipers

I had the judders and scraps. It helps when I added BMW wiper wash mixed with water. Takes the friction away.

Re: Noisy wipers

Re: Noisy wipers

Agree fully. our glasses are polished more than other makes (Japanese/Koreans/some Europeans) and this makes the glass quite water repellant as long as the glass is clean. Use a good car shampoo, and if one wash doesn't work, try a few more times. It should do the trick. Wash your wiper blades as well.

Just don't use the chemicals nor even glass polish. they are meant for unpolished/lowly polished glass, which ours are not. you might find water will STICK if you use them....

As for the squeeks, once you've cleaned you glass to be capable to repel water, and still squeeks, change those blades.

Re: Noisy wipers

You might want to consider using claybar on your windscreen. Duno anyone tried on a newer bimmer or not. At least it works for the older bimmers. It will remove the residue and dirt stuck on the windscreen, making it smooth smooth, kut kut. Streaks problems are also solved with this method. But of cos our wipers also need to be in reasonable good condition.

Re: Noisy wipers

Probably due to the wax on your roof that was washed down during the rain/car wash that caused the effect. Just use a autoglym glass treat regularly and it should be fine over time. Don't replace anymore wipers.
