TripleM said:I wrote to SETRAB before and was told there's a local distributor here but I havent checked it myself.
Racebred said:The technik setrab oil cooler wilman carries has been R&Ded to circumvent this problem, through more precise calculations on fluid dynamics, which explains the additional cost over and above the setrab oil cooler off the shelf. As far as i know, again, this is the only oil cooler system that works on our car. So if you need an oil cooler, then you should approach him for it, and not through any other setrab distributor.
however, one should only get an oil cooler if you have your oil temp data and it consistently breaches the 125 degree level under hard driving. From my memory and experience, your engine will go into limp home mode at about 135-140 degrees.
Racebred said:what is your car? is it an E46? Generic oil coolers usually do not work on E46s (as far as I know, it should apply to all M54 engines too) as there is no positive pressure pumping oil through any aftermarket oil coolers. Your oil will simply bypass the oil cooler pipes and carry on the original route.
As far as i know, again, this is the only oil cooler system that works on our car.
Racebred said:his is definitely the technik one.
Racebred said:shaun, yes, the modifications are down to plumbing, and the design of the core. Theoratically it's possible to find the same spec plumbing, then CNC the aluminium cup to the spec, to chiong the technik oil cooler. But intellectual piracy is another matter.
It does cost more, but for ppl who dont mind trading $ for convenience, take the technik unit from wilson or rennsport.
Racebred said:well, while there isnt any magic involved, it's not that easy for a local workshop to trial and error on some customer's car until some positive flow occurs on any aftermarket oil cooler, and usually they dont have such confidence on self-R&D (on someone else's car), as was fedback to me. I would like to see the day when a local workshop comes across a solution to a worldwide problem, solve it, and begin to market such products to the international market with repeatable performance and reliability. until such time, the customer must either have a lot of faith, or can afford a long downtime to R&D, or buy direct solutions from others who have already achieved it.
