need advise on brake change for e90

hi bro,

was told my 2yrs preFL e90 320i needs to change front brake pads and rotor.

should i :
(1) change front brake pads
(2) change front brake pads and front rotor
(3) change all 4 pads and rotor
(4) others (dunno wat hose thing)?

my considerations:
(1) reduced squeaking sound (when stepping, and when releasing brake)
(2) smooth stopping (not so jerky)

i really hope to get a quiet and smooth brake upgrade manz...

Your mileage? Brake warning light on?

mileage is 30k , no warning lights.
was advised on visual inspection by both pml and tyres shop,
after i complain on squeaking (getting louder) and jerky stops.

Wait for warning light.
Each pad has a brake sensor....once it wears down sufficiently low, this light will come up. Save some money to fight inflation....

workshop can actually do a diagnostics to show the wear n tear for your brakes.
but if u really buay tahan, no need to see, just pay n change...keke
got bigger budget, change more stuff at one time since labour charge is more or less there

I went to PML last week and they told me to change my rear brake pads which doesnt sound rite coz mine is only a year + with 23k mileage. I was searching thru the site dont seem like many of the e90 owners in SG have this problem. I came across this youtube video seems like it is very common in the US. Hi,
I was told that I have to change my brake disc and my disc rotor while my mileage is on 38K, very surprise with this encounter as this is the first time I encounter this, Anyone out there care to comment if this is normal with the E90 320.

Just to share. I just changed the rear disc rotor and pads for my E90. The service light showed 4100km to go, but way before that, some weird sound already started to come out. When i took a look, the right rear rotors were totally gone, the pads were gone too, it was close to stone rubbing stone feel, that's how rough the rotors were (kinda like those stones which we use to grind our kitchen knives).

Damage in all, abt $370 to change new rotors, pads and sensor incl labour.. Not sure if its ex or not.. -.-

As far as i know, E90 rotors are very soft, usually when you change the pads you may have to change the rotors.

Did my rotors and rear brake pads change maybe 2-3 months ago. Together with the sensor.

Agree with bro C3PO, go get it check out e.g. by R2D, they will measure rotor and brake thickness manually. I think mine is 7mm all around so plenty left and it does squeak sometimes at low speed.

Tons of brake dust using the OEM pads, but it means the brakes are working and stopping the car as it was designed to.

Hi bro,

The brake and rotors wear rate for front and back is different.

Mine looks like it's got more brake dust on the rear as our E90 rear wheel driven, so the rear rotors/pads typically wear out faster.

No need to change the front if it's not worn down yet, unless you want the new rotors look all front and back, then change all 4 sides

Try spraying anti-squeal brakes spray ...... Worked for me. Try not to get it on the pad and rotor surface.

Just got my front brake pads and sensor change on my E90 323i at a site sponsor workshop. Damage is $260 for original BMW pads with sensor.

Rotors were still good so did not replace. Mileage is 64,000 km and this is my first change of brake pads. Seems like the other bros change the pads every 40K or so. Guess it attributes to my 80% highway driving with not much braking.

Strange thing is that the workshop ordered the brake pads for my 323i from their vendor but it did not fit as it the pads were a little smaller with some free play. They had to use a bigger brake pad to fit it into my car.

BTW, my 323I is stock original LCI model. YOM 2008.

Not very sure if the mechanic did do that.. he just took a look at my car....made some phone calls and told me that the pads will arrive in 20 minutes. Proceeded for lunch and came back with one of the guys working ont the car.
