Need Advices from BMW experts...

Hi BMW experts out there,

I am interested to buy a used E60 BMW and came across one I like but I am deeply concerned of its high mileage. It had clocked 100km.

Can anyone advise me at 100km, what kind of major servicing would have been done? And what kind of wear and tear parts would I expect in the upcoming servicings?

Please advise...

Hi Bro, i m no expert but juz bought my 1st BMW .... u are looking at the usual
- Timing Belt
- Suspension
- Gearbox

The usual
Aft fluid
Suspension struts
Control arm bushings
Belting and tensioner bearing
Engine and transmission mounts if u want to
Fuel filter and pump
Hoses
No timing belt , chain is lifetime
Spark plugs
Rest replace when fail

I believed the item that I will take note of is the transmission. Make sure it is OK, let the workshops do a check on it.

Suspension absorber leaking, engine oil leaking, coolant leaking (radiator leak)....

I am no expert.... At 100km, probably no need to change anything yet....

If 100,000km, then the advices given are valid...

Thanks all for ur advice. Yeah, I am referring to 100,000 km...type too fast, thanks for pointing out the errors, haha. Guess for BMW, the main concern is the gearbox and I heard replacing it can be a hefty sum...

Guess best decision is to continue sourcing for a good one with lower mileage....

yes, try to search for one with lower mileage and of course previous owner maintenence is important too..............

Low mileage may not be good if it is not properly maintained.

What is the concern on GB for high mileage vehicle. If u r worry, go to BMW Club Malaysia. There are more high mileage vehicles there.

My 9 yr old E39 has clocked 160k km. It is still going strong.

Bro,
Perhaps you might send to the workshop for a vehicle check before buying. Get those extended warranty from outside workshop and ensure the parts can can be replaced when it turns faulty.

What I heard is that many complain about BMW cars is because they don't drive it that much. A high mileage car might not be a bad thing, as along as it is maintained properly throughout its life. A car at any age can give problems. I've heard of a 6 month old car having problems with active steering.... My E60 had bearing problems at about 98k km, active steering remained sweet and working.... of course, I couldn't tell you what's going to go next....

BTW, I had my ATF changed at 50k km..... but that doesn't mean nothing's going to happen to the gearbox..... So far so good....

I guess it all boils down to luck too....

Check the radiator systems, squeeze all the rubber hoses to see if it's been all dried up. It may be telling that it's about time to overhaul the radiator/ coolant systems and big bills are coming. Visually check and make sure no water mark on the joints (not water , but whitish residue marks left by the evaporations).

Engine/ transmissions mount may need to be changed for better driveability.

Shock absorbers to be checked too..

Check for engine oil leakage or oil stains underneath the transmissions/ engines. This will also be one of the most common problem in used BMWs.
