Chinese Internet sensation Gan Lulu is draped across the couch seductively, dressed in a skimpy red dress that barely covers her assets.
The men scattered around the club are all openly ogling, and some wolf whistle.
But the 27-year-old actress-model is not at all put off during the photoshoot for Life!.
She looks happy basking in the attention as she pouts her glossy lips for the camera.
"I don't mind the men leering at me - I mean, they're just looking, right?" she tells this reporter boldly in Mandarin at an interview later on.
"It's only normal for men to be a little lecherous. If they don't look, I would question whether they are really men. As long as they don't touch me, I have no problems. I think women should dress up for men to admire anyway."
Gan was in town over the weekend to perform at the grand opening of Club Lava, a new lounge and club located at Chijmes.
One thing is clear: This Henan province-born girl has no inhibitions whatsoever about showing off her body.
She has, after all, been nicknamed everything from "China's Top Nude Model" to "China's Top Sexy Goddess" for her willingness to bare her body.
The red dress she wore for the photoshoot was one of several barely-there outfits that she would put on during the club's opening night. These included a see-through cheongsam and a black bikini-like get-up paired with a flowing robe.
"There's nothing really that I won't wear. Well, except for an outfit made of another country's flag, like a certain celebrity did once," she says, most likely referring to Chinese actress Vicki Zhao Wei, 37, who created a huge controversy in 2001 when she wore a dress printed with the Japanese military flag.
Her paid appearance at Club Lava included her playing games with suggestive names such as "Suck And Blow", in which a male customer picked from the audience got to share a jello shooter with her.
"As long as I'm not hurting anyone and I'm not hurting myself, I don't see what the problem is," she says. "I draw the line if I'm hurting anybody.
"I've always been very free and open- minded about my body and way of life, and quite Western in my thinking. It's just my personality. I think the body is very pure and I am my own person, so what's there to be conservative about?" she says matter-of-factly.
One wonders if this brazen attitude is her own, or one learnt from her mother, Lei Bingxia, who is her manager.
After all, the 50- year-old is the main reason her daughter became an Internet sensation in the first place.
Gan, who had a number of bit parts in Chinese drama films such as Aftershock (2010), became one of China's most Googled names after her mother filmed and uploaded a video of her coming out of the shower naked in February 2011.
Her mother has since defended the controversial video, saying that it was simply an "innocent" attempt to matchmake her daughter.
Since Gan's video was released, she has been hired regularly to perform at clubs, as well as to model at events such as car shows, wearing very little.
During her still-single daughter's interview with Life!, Madam Lei sits on the couch with her daughter with an icy smile throughout as she listens carefully to every word.
Every now and then, she would reach over to Gan and tell her to "sit up properly because there is a camera". Gan pretends not to hear her mother, but eventually corrects her posture.
When this reporter asks Gan about her relationship with her father, Gan looks hesitantly at her mother.
Reportedly, her civil servant father is furious about the infamous shower video and the way that his wife used such a sleazy tactic to draw attention to their daughter.
On her father, Gan answers carefully: "He is very supportive of what I do. He knows that I'm not doing anything bad, so he's fine with it.
"When I was younger, he was really the parent in the family, but now my mother is more in charge of parenting me."
In fact, Madam Lei is now hoping for her younger daughter, Maomao, to follow in Gan's footsteps. The 24-year-old travels often with mother and sister around China to perform at nightclubs in skimpy outfits. They sing, dance and occasionally engage the audience in games, similar to the Club Lava gig.
Says Maomao in Mandarin: "If all three of us are on stage, including my mother, then we advertise the Lulu show as 'buy one, get two free'. If it's just me and my sister, then it's 'buy one, get one free'."
She proceeds to tell Life! how she wanted to join the entertainment industry because she had been dumped by a guy and needed to "do something to prove that she is better than he is".
Before she can finish her story, her mother cuts in abruptly and says: "I want my daughters to know that things such as romantic relationships are secondary to taking care of themselves first. Maomao can do so much better than that guy and look where she is now.
"Lulu has around 30 shows every month, and Maomao has about 20. She is doing well."
So is Madam Lei still eager to matchmake her daughters? She says: "For now, I think career is their No. 1 priority. When the right guy comes along, then of course she should be with her love.
"My ideal son-in-law is someone like me, who will do everything for my daughters and look out for their best interests."
Gan sounds more of a romantic when asked about love. "I love what I'm doing now, but if I find true love, then I think I'm willing to give this up for him."
