Hi,

Just wondering, as a matter of interest, would a M3 engine fit inside a non M3? Any idea what retrofits need to be made in order for the M3 engine to be accomodated.

Cheers
Jason

can fit... infact the s54 engine has been put into a station wagon before...

actually even the e39 M5 engine can fit if you make the proper mods to the chasis, but its gonna be a big job as you prob need to relocate all the engine mounts, tranny mounts, maybe move the firewall among other things.

So would the S54 engine be a relatively simple install?

Not sure if it's simple but I m pretty sure experienced/established work shop familiar with BMW engine can do it well.

In addition to wot MRacer has said, S54 engine can be put in either Z3 or Z4 too hence the MCoupe model..
There had also been cases where the E36 M3 engine ( think called S52) had been retrofited into some E36 sedan/coupe. :whatthe:

Dropping in the engine is very easy, the hard part is getting it to run with your car. Shafts needs to be changed, differentials, gearbox, ECU, harness, dashboard, etc.... Very tough but possible job if you ask me... The labour would probably cost you an arm and a leg too...

Looks like alot of work. Th good thing is that there an M3 engine on sale at the moment for US$8K with 15K miles. It'll probably be more worth while than Super charging etc.

He is George Lee from San Marino (North of Los Angeles). Will be dropping by his place sometime this month. Will try to extract more info/knowledge from him and perhaps "maybe" even snap some 'latest' overall pics and share it here....however, will respect his privacy if he so wishes.
