Noticed those 330i - coupe; cab has low sporty exhaust notes when they move off. Is this due to muffler set up in the e46?
In the e60, the exhaust note sounds wimpy! can anyone help enlighten me?

Dunno about the technical aspects but I remember RB saying that the exhaust in 330 is the same except for some valve.
But whatever it is I agree with you - I can recognise a 330 just from the exhuast note - damn shiok.

you mean the 3 litre M54 engine in the e60 is different from the engine in the 330i?? (scratching my head big time!!)
Maybe i wasn't specific in my post, i was referring to e60 530i.

after posting, found this site and it seems the exhaust system is different!

oh in the e60, as well as e39, the 3.0L engine is the same, but there's more soundproofing and muffling. if you compare the e60/e39 non 3L IL6 to the 5er 3.0L, the latter will sound relatively lower too, albeit more muffled overall.

The 3 series is traditionally louder than the 5 since 3 is usually leans towards sporty than 5s' elegance... which means quieter....

U will be bewildered that a 5 with Remus is almost muted in the cabin as well.....
