Just to share: Anti sway bar for f10

Been quite sway recently, so started looking for more anti sway bar for my 4 pot f10.

The ang mohs and hongkongers already installed the m5 front sway bar and a 16mm rear sway bar from the m550d and 650i convert.

Some ang moh website was selling the front and rear for about $800sgd, shipped with gst. Shipping and gst was already close to $200.

So I ringed up my favourite workshop...was quoted 1k plus for the front and another 500 or so for the rear. Labour was $180 with bring your own parts. Expensive part, cheap labour. They don't think it can fit though...

Called stockist, was quoted about about 800+ for font and rear. Reasonable, but there was a problem. The front sway bar came with bushing. The rear sway bar didn't. The stockist wants $140sgd for each rear bushing, and 2 are needed. i.e. it will cost another $280 for bushing. Might as well get online, shipped to my door step.

Messaged a popular workshop. They can supply part and labour for about 11XX before gst. But there was yet another problem...they don't pick up phone, nor reply sms. Yup, I tried msging and calling for a week...

So no choice, being poor and stingy, I did my own research into what fits and what doesn't...yup, I very bad, enquire for price liao, then never do...

Front sway bar:

According to bmw part list, there are few types of front sway bar for non x-drive f10.

31356777933
31356791924
31356791925
31356793395
31352284460

What's the difference?

31356777933 is what comes with 520i, 523i, 528i, 530i, 520d, 525d...etc etc..and anything that has less power than a n55. All are non m-sport, non 704A suspension. Weirdly, this is also speced to be for f06 gran coupe and f13 coupe, n55, when you spec in electronic dampers.

31356791924 is what comes with your 535i non m sport. This is apparently 24mm. However, this is also the front arb for 520i, 523i, 528i,...etc etc, IF AND ONLY IF you have the m sport 704A option. This is also a f06, f11, f12, f13 part.

So what happens if you have a 535i m sport? You get the 31356791925, which is also 24mm?? I guess. This is also the arb for various other m sport model. Interestingly, the f11 535i non m-sport comes with this, instead of the 31356791924.

31356793395 (which I assume is also 24mm??) comes with the f11 535i m sport suspenion. This is also the stock arb for 550i f10. The werid thing is that there is NO 550i m sport front arb...weird.

Then what about 31352284460? This is the stock m5 f10 part, that has been fitted successfully to many many other lesser f10s. Some had problem with the eps module blocking, some had problem with x-drive...but generally, 520i, 523i, 528i, 535i, sedans should be ok...

So which route are you planning to go ?

Re: Just to share: Anti sway bar for f10

Rear sway bar...again, there are a few variants. The thing about rear sway bar is that it DOES NOT COME WITH BUSHING. Unlike the front, you need to get the rubber bushing seperately. Normally it should be like within usd50 for two...at least that is what I see.

33556789870 (13mm)
33556789871 (14mm)
33556775437 (15mm)
33556791932 (16mm)

So what are the difference? Like the front, these are for the various variants of f10, f06, f12, f13, and f18. Why not f11? I think it is the rear self leveling suspension being different?

Anyway...

33556789870 (13mm) is the stock 520i, 523i, 528i,....non m sport arb for smaller engined f10, INCLUDING 535i. This is slightly different from the case of the front.

If you ordered yours with m sport, you get the 14mm 33556789871. This is also the stock arb for 550i...and again, there does not seems to be a m-sport arb for 550i.

33556775437 (15mm) is what comes with the x-drive version of 535i, 550i. That means it will not fit non x-drive? Luckily no...if you look at the 6 series, both 14mm and 15mm can be fitted on, depending if yours is coupe, convertible, edc or not...etc. That means technically speaking, it should fit.

BUT ANG MOH are tua ki. So the one that people on overseas forum are retrefitting is the 16mm, 33556791932 rear sway bar. This is for m550d and various f12. How do we know it will fit f10? Because if you spec a 640i convert with edc, you get 15mm. Without edc, you get 16mm. Since it seems like the 13mm, 14mm, 15mm, and 16mm, are easily interchanged...that means the tua ki ones should also also fit my 520i?

Anybody want to buddy buy and share shipping?

Are you using stock suspensions ?

Yup, stock...car will feel funny?

I am thinking of trying soft spring, stiff bar...will it maintain the current softness but yet not roll so much? Or will it crash through every features on the road surface?

Re: Just to share: Anti sway bar for f10

IMHO - You will get more returns on the $$ if you do the suspensions first.

The ARBs are like an icing on the cake ...... The final finishing touch.

Btw, if the arbs are too stiff - the suspension would start to lose its independence.

You have to find out whether you have Active Roll Stabilization. If have, then cannot.

Re: Just to share: Anti sway bar for f10
