Finally got my cable today. Works well.

1) Charges the Iphone/ipod
2) Can view playlists on the dashboard screen
3) Can control via Idrive and also steering wheel
4) Can select via Genre, Artists etc on the dashboard screen
5) Shows full details of the song on the screen

Happy with it and definitely trust this is better for the Iphone/Ipod.

I just bought the Iphone/Ipod Y adapter online on ebay. Paid USD 15 including shipping. Let's see if it works when I get it.
