Improved Fuel Consumption with upgraded 19"

I just like to share my experience on my new Wheels, I had just replaced my Rim and Tyre set from the existing 17" inch V-spoke Rim Style #245 with Goodyear Runflat tyre (245/45 F&R) to the current ProDrive 19" CG-05K with Bridgestone RE001(245/30 F and 275/35 R)

Before changing, I used to get 9.1km/l to 9.2km/l with the Runflat. I was totally surprised to see the FC improved to 9.6km/l with the 19".

I had alway thought that the FC will suffer after the Rims get upgraded. This certainly came as a surprise to me.

Not sure if any bro have the same experience.

Cheers!

Mythbuster !!!

...... although the FC numbers from the EDC are not entirely accurate......

Re: Improved Fuel Consumption with upgraded 19"

Same for me. Although your tires have got wider, the absolute weight loss on Prodrive vs OEM rim is so significant that the improvement in fuel consumption is highly possible.

Have you tried lifting your OEM rims + RFT against your Prodrive + Bridgestone? Unsprung Weight Loss vs Increase in Rolling Resistance..

Yes the weight is alot of different, even the installer complained that the 17" OEM with RFT is so much heavier compared to the Prodrive 19" with normal tyres.

good update.....gives me more reason to change to 19"s as soon as possible.

on my 525, i am only getting 8.0km/l now on stock RFTs... mileage of the car is only 1650km. Normal driving is 25km per day, to and fro office.

Pic taken this morning after sending kids to school and then to my work place.

9.8km/l. Weight of Rim and tyre seems to be making alot of different to my car FC.

Re: Improved Fuel Consumption with upgraded 19"

if you had used Michelin tires, your FC would improve even more........
guarantee but then r u prepared to pay more for the tires?

our forumer Fordnford reco Broquet oso.........haha....

Re: Improved Fuel Consumption with upgraded 19"

Besides (1) overall weight of the wheels+tyres combo, (2) the weight distribution of the wheels+tyres, (3) rolling circumference, tyre pressure is a key factor affecting FC as well.

Re: Improved Fuel Consumption with upgraded 19"

scale down tyre width (245/30 F and 275/35 R) to 215s all round will also reduce FC! :D

Re: Improved Fuel Consumption with upgraded 19"

After monitoring for another few more days, I think my car FC is confirmed to have improved. Here's my updated record taken this afternoon.

Hope this provides some useful information for other bros.

Happy Motoring.

Cheers!

Good choice for your rims from Prodrive! Prodrive are well know for light weight & less spokes. Had GC-05F for my previous Civic. Simply no Regrets!

And thanks for sharing, to my surprise didn't know Prodrive can fit to BM oso... Whats your offset huh? Need spacer or bracket? Or simply just fit in?

Cheers!

The GC-05K fits perfectly to my E60 without any need for spacer or bracket. In addition, there is very much less brake dust as there are more air space to disperse the dust. Cleaning is also very much easier.
