Sorry to hijack this thread.... Festive season is near e corner, most workshops are closed. Advice to bring along 'sum-mong' wires if u do have, if happens to go workshop these 2 days or so, charge up ur batteries, top up water if necessary.

quite alarm that car batt for beemers can last up to 4.5yrs...
my previous Jap or even Ford cars' batt can last only 2~2.5yrs
how much is Odyssey or Hoppecke batt cost, anyone has info?
those Amaron, Hitachi batt usually cost $110~130 range

cars with less usage & low mileage would still mean same batt lifespan? or can last a little longer?

Life of car battery depends on driver's habit. Some switch on headlights during day too while others only have headlight turned on in the night. I had a bad experience a few years ago where the car came to a complete halt. Tried to restart but no response despite turning ingnition key. Finally towed it to workshop and all was well after replacing battery. Don't get caught in this scenario - it spoils your day.

it all depends on your driving habit. some only switch on headlights in the night while others turn it on during day driving too. i had a bad experience a few years ago when my car came to an abrupt stop while on an errand in town. i had it towed to a workshop and car was up and running after battery replacement. never get into such a scenario - it spoils the day.

Amazingly, I have just changed the original factory battery on my E39 525iT after 6 years. Came back from a 2 week vacation and the car just wouldn't crank.

I think the longevity has something to do with the battery's location in the rear of the car i.e. away from the hear of the engine. Have never had a battery last this long -- usually get no more than 2 or 3 years in my other cars.
