How long before you change your tyres

What I meant to ask everyone is when do you consider yr current tyres are worn out and time to change. Do you go by mileage covered, time, or wait till you see/feel they re time to go?

I heard from a shop that he sells more tyres these days, with a lot of used tyres in his shop bcos lota people change tyres every year! !!!!! irregardless of their condition.:whythis:

Mileage. 10,000 km is for rough drivers, 15,000 is about right. Safety is paramount.

Re: How long before you change your tyres

as a benchmark, i'll check whenever i rotate the rubbers between 5 to 8k km.

Re: How long before you change your tyres

My shop told me to go back for tyre swap front/back at 10,000km. Will that be 'too late'

Re: How long before you change your tyres

10,000 km for rotation is just about right for normal drivers. Assuming you are not running on staggered......

Re: How long before you change your tyres

beng, there abt. as for me, scared lose, just wana make sure tires are running 'evenly' especially when car is lowered & on low profile tires, dun want the inner side to makan up till botak 1st. hardly rotate at the 10k km mark.

Re: How long before you change your tyres

Did about 40k km on my 225/45/17 Potenza GIII. Still got 4mm thread left with even wear. Just that can feel that the tires are harder than when new and road noise is quite intrusive already, but grip is still quite good even in wet.

Would safety be compromised even with 4mm thread left?

Thks

Re: How long before you change your tyres

4mm is still alot isnt it?

Re: How long before you change your tyres

think 4mm is just 1mm away to minimum...

normally 35k-40k km or 2 years which ever is earlier...

however, most drivers dont push their cars... so 4mm should still be okie... but remember that the tyres are the only things that is in contact with the road...

Re: How long before you change your tyres

i tracked my bridgestone run flats with about 3-4mm of thread left. no problems.

Re: How long before you change your tyres

most tyres hv tyre markers now...once u wear till u hit the marker...time to change.

Re: How long before you change your tyres

i change once every 3mths

Re: How long before you change your tyres

I think average lifespan for tyres 18" and below, it should last ~25km to 35km depending how you drive. Whereas, 19" and above, usually it last only ~20km to 25km, IMO

tyre markers? how do they look like?

Beng,

It is a small "hump" thing found in one of the thread at the centre of the tyre. When the "hump" is flushed with the depth of the thread, it is time to change. My previous 16" Conti Sport lasted 2 years with 40,000+ km on it (with a lot of highway driving) and with tyre rotation every 10,000 km.

If you still cannot locate the "hump", buy me a drink and I'll show you on your car. :p

Re: How long before you change your tyres

According to the BMW training bugger, he says he changes his tyres every two years. No rotation, no changing, no swaping etc.... just change!!!
