Have any bimmer owners experience a hissing sound from the rear of the car (year 2004 318i)
while stationary (engine just turn on), Location is when stood down and hear from the rear tire. For morning cold start is even worse.
I have it on my car as well whenever I start my car every morning. The sound will go away after the engine is warmed up. If I remember correctly, I think Rodney (Yendor) gave an explaination about it the other time. If I remember correctly, it's something to do with gases passing thru something as your car is warming up. Try doing a search for that thread. Nothing to worry about.
Its your fuel pump noise. More noticeable on the right side of the car under the rear seats. Its ok if you hear a bit. But if it's too loud, its a sign that its going to fail. Better get it checked.

I might off track your question as I read your thread you mentioned it is a hissing sound, So far not on my ride but theres an off and on creaking sound whenever I enter and sit on the driver seat before starting the machine, There is normal while the hand brake is still engaged,
Mus, the sound only appear when the engine is on. Maybe what our guys have mention here is due to the fuel pump. Will get it check on the next service interval.
